PKMN.NET :: Gyms :: Black and White Battling
Black and White Battling: Gyms | No running machines, tragically

There were many wild rumours going around in the buildup to Black and White. "There aren't going to be any Gyms this time!". "You're going to start off as an Elite Four Member this time!" "It's going to be set in Zimbabwe, where you have to enstill Sir Alex Ferguson as President and provide him with Pokémon to help him rule supreme!"

All a load of poppycock of course. The Unova Region will once again contain 8 Pokémon Gyms, each with a badge to collect, before you can then once again challenge the Elite 4. One thing that does appear to be new however is the reliance of quizzes inside the Unova Gyms. This page will detail the Pokémon Gyms as and when we learn about them.

Gym #1
Type: // Leader: Cilan/Chili/Cress Location: Striaton City
Badge: Trio Badge Effects: Can use HM01 outside of battle.Reward: TM83
Striaton Gym tests your knowledge about elemental types. You are given a type and have to stand on a tile on the floor which matches the type which is either super effective or weak against the type in question. After answering three of these correctly you will face the Gym Leader - you will face the grass-loving Cilan if you started with Oshawott, the fire-loving Chili if you started with Snivy or the water-loving Cress if you started with Tepig.

Gym #2
Type: Leader: Lenora Location: Nacrene City
Badge: Basic Badge Effects: Pokémon up to Lv. 30 obey.Reward: TM67
Nacrene Gym starts out as a museum and then becomes a library. Pretty unique I'm sure you'll agree. When you first arrive a scientist will eventually direct you to the next room where, via searching for clues in bookcases and battling trainers, you'll eventually uncover the secret staircase down to Lenora. Beware her Hypnotising Watchog. It's evil I tell you. EVIL.

Gym #3
Type: Leader: Burgh Location: Castelia City
Badge: Insect Badge Effects: Pokémon up to Lv. 40 obey.Reward: TM76
One of the biggest challenges you'll face with the Castelia Gym is actually finding it - it's located in the western-most alley of the gigantic Castelia City. You can only enter it after scaring off Team Plasma on United Pier with Burgh, Cheren and Bianca. Inside the Gym is a maze filled with honey gates which you have to run and squeeze your way through. Keep heading upwards and eventually you'll open the gate to battle Burgh.

Gym #4
Type: Leader: Elesa Location: Nimbasa City
Badge: Bolt Badge Effects: Pokémon up to Lv. 50 obey.Reward: TM72
The Nimbasa Gym lies within the boundaries of the Nimbasa City Funfair and the Gym is suitably very neon and bright. You have to travel across the Gym on various rollercoasters, battling trainers and flicking switches to change the direction of the track until you eventually arrive at Elesa. She paralyzes your Pokémon a lot, so make sure you arrive prepared!

Gym #5
Type: Leader: Clay Location: Driftveil City
Badge: Quake Badge Effects: Pokémon up to Lv. 60 obey.Reward: TM78
When you arrive in Driftveil City the Gym will be empty, and Clay will only return after you defeat Team Plasma in the Freezer Container located south of the City. The Driftveil Gym uses a lift based system which takes you deep underground. The key lift you need is viewable almost immediately, but is inconveniently blocked off by an ill-placed traffic cone. Rather than step over it, you have to head through the Gym to get to it, before finally taking the final lift down through the Earth's core (well it feels like it) before taking on Clay.

Gym #6
Type: Leader: Skyla Location: Mistralton City
Badge: Jet Badge Effects: Pokémon up to Lv. 70 obey.Reward: TM62
When you arrive in Mistralton City an Old Man and the Gym Leader Skyla will greet you. The Old Man will update your Pokédex to be able to see Pokémon Forms before Skyla runs away to the North. You'll find her at the top of the Tower of Heavens, at the end of Route 7. When you find her ring the bell at the top of the tower and she will return to her Gym. The Gym is a puzzle in which you have to choose a direction to be fired through a cannon (how did that ever get past Health and Safety?) until you eventually reach Skyla at the back of the room.

Gym #7
Type: Leader: Brycen Location: Icirrus City
Badge: Freeze Badge Effects: Pokémon up to Lv. 80 obey.Reward: TM79
In a shock twist, the Icirrus Gym is accessible as soon as arrive in Icirrus City. As per usual, the Gym is a ice puzzle in which you must slide across and use strategically placed rocks and dirt tracks to help you change direction. There are also switches which change the positioning of certain wooden barriers which will spin you off to the next area. Eventually you will reach the end of the third floor where Brycen is waiting to battle.

Gym #8
Type: Leader: Drayden (Black Version) / Iris (White Version) Location: Opelucid City
Badge: Legend Badge Effects: All Pokémon obey.Reward: TM82
As soon as you arrive in Opelucid City, Adeku will lead you over to Team Plasma who will quickly disperse. Iris will then lead you over to the house she shares with her grandfather, Drayden. After talking to them both, one of them will leave for the Gym. The Opelucid Gym is a maze of paths shaped like dragons which move when you jump down onto switches. Despite looking complicated the path is largely quite linear and eventually you'll reach the Gym Leader, located at the very top of the Gym.

I think there should be a Dark type Gym with a female Leader named Cassandra which means "Prophetess of Doom!"

KHFan90 on Thu 17 Feb 2011 06:23:34 UTC.
^When they stop having Dark Type Elite Four members. Seriously, I'm kinda sick of the recycle Elite Four typings. All four typings of this gen have been done before.
pokemonlover1000 on Fri 18 Feb 2011 02:33:24 UTC.
when are they going to add a new Elite four member.
Nostaliholic on Mon 04 Apr 2011 16:47:07 UTC.
I was really disappointed they didn't include a Dark-type gym this time! I was envisioning a slightly overweight Goth-like girl named "Darcy." She should have been the last gym leader, too, with a team like this:

Krookodile
Mandibuzz
Scrafty
Hydreigon

Watch out for elesa you'll need a rock type with you for her emolgas
Guest on Mon 23 Feb 2015 00:30:40 UTC.
If you guys wanna learn how to deal with elesa it depends on your starter: snivy don't evolve it until it learns slam and use leech seed on her emolgas to drain while killing them with slam and make sure you have a few paralyze heals and revives for him too or you could just train a Blitzel and get an easy win, tepig could easily win just use rollout and you beat her, oshawott gets a pretty hard win and im not 100% sure you can win but if it learns Aqua jet then it's pretty good
