This episode is essential viewing because: Chikorita evolves into Bayleef.

Still heading for Olivine City, the group come to a clearing containing windmills. They decide to take a break, giving their Pokémon some fresh air. Nearby, Team Rocket find a building, and head towards it in the hope of finding something to eat. Meowth manages to pick the electronic lock, and once inside, they start to explore - followed by Jigglypuff.

Ash decides to hunt for firewood, taking Chickorita with him. Inside the building, Team Rocket are attacked by Magnemite. Ash arrives outside with Chickorita and, seeing the door open, heads inside. As soon as he enters, the door blows shut, and won't open again. Pikachu hears him shouting, and heads off, followed by Brock and Misty. Brock doubts it'll be possible to use the elctronic device, so he decides to contact an electric company. Inside, Chickorita has found a floorplan, including a labelled control room. Ash heads towards the room, but runs into the Magnemite, who have now left Team Rocket alone. Team Rocket spot Ash and Chickorita running around, and see this as a good opportunity to steal Chickorita. Ash soon runs into a Magneton, which unleashes electricity towards Chickorita; Ash rescuse Chickorita just in time.

Team Rocket are about to make their move, when Jigglypuff turns up. James takes its microphone and throws it away. Ash spots a staircase, while Jigglypuff finds the microphone. It begins to sing, sending the Magnemite and Magneton to sleep.

Brock arrives back, and reports that it'll take time for an electrician to arrive. Inside, Team Rocket find the Magnemite fast asleep and covered in ink, and head after Ash. Downstairs, Ash is surrounded by Electrode, which he fights off with Chickorita. They both run as the Electrodes explode, trying to avoid the blasts. He ducks into another room, where he runs into Jigglypuff. Chickorita quickly confiscates the microphone, throwing it away, and Jigglypuff follows - straight towards Team Rocket. The Rockets run away, and Jigglypuff finds the Electrode, and sings for them.

Elsewhere, Team Rocket have found another room, containing an Electabuzz - a Pokémon in charge of security, with the other Electric Pokémon as security guards. The Rockets tell Electabuzz that Ash is trespassing, and it heads away to find him.

Outside, the electrician has arrived, and she explains that the building is full of Pokémon trained to keep intruders away. Inside, Ash runs into Electabuzz, which attempts to subdue Ash. Ash orders Chickorita to use its Vine Whip and Tackle attacks, and at first, Chikorita gains the upper hand - but suddenly, Electabuzz fights back with aplomb.

The electrician manages to open the door, and Pikachu runs inside, but inside, both Chickorita and Electabuzz find themselves in a cage - Team Rocket's. The Pokémon try to break out of the cage, but fail to break it. The Rockets make their escape, and at the same moment, the electrician arrives with Brock and Misty. They find Ash running towards the stairs and, sensing that he's in trouble, follow him. Back in the clearing, Ash catches up to Team Rocket, but without his Pokémon, he succumbs to attacks from Arbok and Victreebel. Seeing Ash in pain, Chickorita closes its eyes ... and evolves into Bayleef!

Now much stronger, Bayleef's Razor Leaf cuts through the cage. The electrician catches up with the others, and after a quick Thunderbolt from Pikachu and Electabuzz, Bayleef finishes off the Rockets with a Vine Whip.

The electrician apologises for the trouble caused by the security Pokémon, and Ash concedes that he shouldn't have wandered inside without permission. Thanking Bayleef for saving the day, Ash is ready to sleep - and right on cue, Jigglypuff finally sings its song for them.
