This episode is essential viewing because:
Jessie, James, and Meowth acquire a Dragonite.

The old man who works for Claire declares that it will be a three on three battle, only Ash can substitute. Misty is worried that the battle will be tough since Claire specializes in dragons, but Brock seems to think he’ll do fine. Claire chooses Kingdra. Ash chooses Pikachu since it evolves from a Seadra; a pokémon he knows is a water type. He orders a thunderbolt, which hits directly but doesn’t seem to faze Kingdra much. AshCo are a bit surprised at this. Kingdra uses twister. Ash tells Pikachu to dodge it, but Kingdra can control the direction it goes, so Pikachu gets hit. Although it’s a bit shaken, it looks like it can take a bit more. Ash orders a thunder, a more powerful attack, but Kingdra still isn’t fazed. Claire points out the fact that Kingdra used twister, a dragon attack. Brock mentions that Kingdra gained the dragon traits when it evolved. Claire also says that Pikachu must be quite strong to withstand Kingra’s twister, and so it and Ash have gained her respect. She then orders hydro pump. Ash decides to counter with a thunderbolt, but he’s desperately trying to think of another plan, as Pikachu’s electric attacks are useless.

Jessie is still upset about Dratini evolving. Meowth and James give hers some doughnuts (I don’t think they were meant to be doughnuts, but I can’t tell what they were in the Japanese version) to try to cheer her up. She vows revenge on Claire for making it not cute anymore. James and Meowth ask her what her plans to steal Dragonaire are, but Jessie says that Dragonaires are for losers. James and Meowth fall down anime-style and mention how irrational she’s being. A creature that looks like a wobbuffet but somehow different steals the doughnuts and Wobbuffet reaches for one to discover there’re no more left. While Jessie is going through her little temper tantrum, Wobbuffet looks around to see who stole them, but the culprit is nowhere to be seen. James also mentions the Dragon Fang, and Jessie decides that stealing it is the perfect way to get revenge. She reaches for another doughnut and finds that they’re all gone. Everyone blames Wobbuffet even thought it’s trying to plead its innocence.

Kingdra isn’t getting any more merciful with its hydro pumps and Pikachu keeps desperately trying to dodge. Ash orders a quick attack, but that doesn’t have any effect either. He wonders what to do next, as direct attacks don’t seem to work either. Brock and Misty remind him that he can make substitutions, and so he recalls Pikachu and sends out Noctowl.

JessieCo sneak into the Gym’s treasure room.

Noctowl is dodging more of Kingrda’s hydro pumps and Ash orders it to use confusion. It makes Kingdra float up in the air. It’s about to smash it into a wall, but it just uses hydro pump to propel itself away from the wall. It lands on the ground. Kingdra tries to use hypnosis, but Kingdra uses agility and in order for hypnosis to work, Noctowl must make eye contact. Misty is surprised to see it move so quickly on land and Brock comments on how well-trained Kingdra is. Who’s that pokémon?! It’s Octillery!!

Jessie sees the box containing the Dragon Fang and is about to grab it when James stops her. He puts on a special pair of glasses that let him see lasers. They surround the Fang, so he uses a special machine with a hand on the end of it to try to steal the Fang.

Kingdra knocks Noctowl down with a hydro pump. Claire brags a little bit about dragons and her own abilities and orders Kingdra to finish the round with a hydro pump.

JessieCo are just about to grab the Fang when Wobbuffet pops out and causes the alarms to go off.

AshCo, Claire, and the old man hear the alarms and decide to save the match for later to investigate. They arrive just in time to see JessieCo run off with the Fang. They get into a motorboat and Claire sends out her Dragonaire to pursue them. AshCo also use their water pokémon to go after them. JessieCo go inside a cave in hopes of losing them, but Claire says that it’s called the Dragon’s Den and they follow.

It’s pitch black, so Dragonaire lights up the sphere on its neck. Claire says that if they can get out of the Den, they’ll end up in the Dragon’s Holy Land where she and Lance used to train together. Ash is worried about the word “if” and the old man is worried that JessieCo might defile the Holy Land. They come to a fork and Claire says that Dragonaire can sense where they are, so finding them should be easy.

JessieCo are getting light from the headlights on their boat. JessieCo are gloating over the fact that they lost AshCo and they’ll probably make lots of money. Suddenly they hear a waterfall and get worried. The fall down it and towards an exit.

Dragonaire indicates that they’ve gone to the right, which means that they’re headed straight for the Holy Land.

A dragonite who is resting in the Holy Land hears JessieCo scream as they fall out of the cave and catches them. It asks if they need help and it also mentions that it can sense the Dragon Fang. JessieCo get worried about having to deal with an angry Dragonite, so they tell it that they are trying to protect it from some evil people who are trying to steal it. Jessie and James join in and put on a sappy, teary-eyed act and Dragonite agrees to help.

AshCo, Claire, and the old man arrive at the Holy Land. Claire is worried about what JessieCo might do to it, so they split up and try to find them.

JessieCo point to them and tell Dragonite that they’re the evil ones, so Dragonite attacks with a hyper beam. It misses, but AshCo, Claire, and the old man are still worried. Claire recognizes it as the Dragonite that used to belong to the first Gym Leader. She says that it has never been the same since its trainer “left”. AshCo feel sorry for it and vow to rescue it from it. Suddenly a roar is heard and a very familiar silhouette is heading toward them…
