In his anime debut Trip quickly established himself as the latest in a long line of {pkmn|character|1}'s rivals (his clingyness really did not help matters).

After choosing a {pkmn|pokemon|495} as his starter pokémon he proceeded to beat {pkmn|character|1} in their first of many battles (due to the depowering of {pkmn|character|180} by {pkmn|pokemon|644}) before parting ways.
