Ranger Guides: Capturing Guide | How to do
Introduction

Welcome to my Catching Guide for Ranger. Which hopefully covers catching for you.

The Styler

One obvious thing you use to draw rings around. However you don't have to go incredibly fast all the time. Slow ringing sometimes works better and doesn't hurt your wrist so much.

Pokeassists

Awesome things which help you. I hope I've covered them all here.

Pokeassist Pokemon Type What
Discharge Plusle/Minum (Starter) Electric Makes the foe stay still for a certain amount of time.
Energy Charge Any electric pokemon apart from Plusle/Minum Electric Heals a certain amount of energy on the styler
Grass Grass Types Grass Grass comes out from the capture line. If the target pokemon touches the grass it will get stuck.
Fire Fire Types Fire Flames appear rom the capture line, if the target pokemon touches the flames it will get stuck
Water Water Types Water Hold the styler and a bubble will be made. Tilt it towards the target pokemon and it will get stuck in the bubble.
Fighting Figting Types Fighting Doubles the permormance of the styler. E.g one ring takes two Hp off rather than one.
Poison Poison Types Poison A poison mist appears with the capture line. If the target pokemon hits it, it will get stuck.
Psychic Psychic Types Psychic The target pokemon floats in the air unable to move.
Bug Bug Types Bug Throw a sticky blob at the target, to make it stuck.
Ground Ground Types Ground The ground gets sent up by the capture line to make it hard for the target to move
Rock Rock Types Rock Throw gravel at the target pokemon. If it hits they get stuck in a cloud of dust.
Flying Flying Types Flying Send a tornamdo at the target pokemon, if it hits the target pokemon it is lifted still, ready to be caught for a certain amount of time.
Dark Dark Types Dark Doubles the length of the capture line, but reduces the amount of styler energy.
Ghost Ghost Types Ghost When a ring is drawn a ghost appears in the middle and makes one of the target pokemon stuck.
Ice Ice Types Ice Ring around one pokemon and make it get freezed, unable to move or attack.

Awesome heh? Steel is not there, for whatever reason Nintendo didn't put them in. Since most of the Steel pokemon are dual e.g Metagross. They use their other type. In Metagross' case Psychic.

The Target pokemon

Nearly all the pokemon have some way of trying not to be caught, but can be caught.

Charge Counter

A relative easy one. They just charge at the capture line and if it hits you loose some energy and the capture line breaks. Either fast and slow work, but they usually get tired out after their attack so their's a chance to ring around or use a pokeassist.

Close Combat Counter

Sounds like the D/P attack right? Well it kind of does. Get up close to the capture line and hit it or something. However, it's easy to counter, let go of the capture line or move it out of the way. Then you can easily fast capture it.

Protect Counter

The Target forms some shield over it, when which is touched does hurt you, but just do wide rings around it. that's why Quilava's so easy to beat.

Blast 1 Counter

I've decided to split these attacks in two. Blast 1 is where the target send out a blast, which doesn't go everywhere on the screen in one direction. Just covers an area, like Spinarak and Croconaw. Both captures work, but still require a bit of movement. This includes Camperupt's explosions as they cover a wide area, but not everywhere.

Blast 2 Counter

Blast 2 is simmiliar to Blast 1, but goes in one direction off the screen. Like Magneton and one of Salemence attacks. It too can be beatn by both capture speeds, but you may still need to move around a bit. Also, Salemence can't be beaten by slow even though it can do Blast 2.

Total Counter

Metagross, Tyranitar and Salemence all have it. It totally wipes out the possibility of slow catching as it hits everywhere. Fast catching works, but you'd have to use a pokeassist to help you no matter what.

Speed Counter

These pokemon have low Hp, but are super fast and, their attack is normally tornados. Slow catching is hard because they send out a lot of tornados, but still works. Fast catching only works if you find a way to slow them down using a pokeassist.

Boomerang Counter

Quite rare, but it sends out an item to try and cut the capture line, it then returns back again, but can be easily captured with slow capturing.

Obstacle counter

One of the hardest ones. The target creates obstacles which when touched give serious damage. The legendary dogs, Charizard and Venasaur use these. Slow capturing is safer, but there is a chance of the obstacle landing on it. Fast capturing's risky as it could hit the obstacle. To make it easier, when they're about to re-new their obstacle use a pokeassist to imoblie them. Then it's fast capturing.

Fog counter

The Target creates a big fog like Blast 1, it covers an area, but it makes it hard to see and if you touch it while being made you get hurt. After it's fainly visible go ahead and capture the target.

Teleport Counter

Teleporting counts as diving and Bouncing as well. As the target disapears for a while and then comes back. This makes Fast catching pointless as you may end up ringing nothing, so slow catching works best here.

Mixed Counter

They are all the other counters put together, making it harder. Look at Salemence. A Blast 2 and a Total. The only chance of beating it as seen on the challenge guide is when it's in the air.

Yes, it's sadly the end of the guide and hopefully will make capturing a lot easier for you. Remember Pokeassists are vital.

Thanks to Sappy for this!
