In GSC, there are special shiny Pokemon. Although they are exactly like ordinary Pokemon, they are a different colour and "shine" when released into battle. The most famous example is the Red Gyarados who lives in the Lake of Rage.
Shininess is based on Pokemon genes (otherwise known as DVs), which gives you an 8-in-65536 (or 1-in-8192) chance of finding a wild shiny. A much easier way to get a shiny would be to breed with a shiny you already have, as the genes would be passed down. The most desirable shiny breeder would be Ditto, of course, who can breed with almost every Pokemon.
Luckily for the avid shiny fan, there's a trick to gain a shiny Ditto which requires the use of a RBY cart. Before I go on, I would like to point out that this trick was discovered by Meowth346 of Pokemon Forever, who deserves considerable credit for it.
First of all, get yourself a shiny Pokemon. The easiest would be Gyarados. I would reccomend deleting all its moves but one first and leave it with a move which does no damage such as Rest or Leer. Whatever you do, though, make sure it only knows moves that were in RBY.
Next trade the shiny Pokemon to a RBY cart. Don't worry; although it'll look like an ordinary Pokemon in RBY, it will still be shiny when you trade it back, since the genes do not change when you trade. When you have it on the cart, teach it the Mimic TM (TM31 which you get from Copycat in exchange for a Pokedoll).
Equip yourself with as many Ultra Ball as you can afford (or the Master Ball if you did not use it), and find a wild Ditto. As soon as you find one, use Mimic to learn Transform. When Ditto Transforms, it will either know Mimic or Transform. Either way, it will eventually use Transform again. Make sure you do not accidentally knock it out and start hurling Ultra Balls or the Master Ball at it. When you catch it, it will have permanently copied the shiny Pokemon's genes.
Heal the Ditto straight away, as otherwise its HP will be a little off; sometimes it will have more HP than it can possibly have ordinarily. Trade it to GSC and you will have a shiny blue Ditto.
That's all there is to it; you can now breed to your content, with much better odds. There is still no guarantee, and the odds will still be 1-in-64 or suchlike, but that's better than 1-in-8192.

Gold and Crystal both goldbats and then Emerald at Sky Tower :P except on gold and crystal it was a silvery colour :P and not green and pink.
I also got a blue nose dugtrio on diamond... I used to have a shiny Rapidash... best thing ever! bad ass You've seen a shiny abra but it teleported... Why didn't you just throw a pokeball? there's like 80% chance of success in my experience. I hate to burst everybody's bubble, here, but breeding a shiny pokemon does NOT increase your chances of getting another shiny, that is a myth. While this method of obtaining a shiny ditto MAY VERY WELL WORK, I repeat, breeding a shiny dittowith ANY pokemon does NOT invrease the chances that it will be shiny AT ALL. Shiny has nothing to do with DVs If you don't believe me, simply google it. Let me un-burst the bubble of anyone who actually read the article and say that yes, this works--but only in the original games, which can't trade with newer ones. It will not work in the G/S remakes or any other game. hope it works I will try it out I've been trying to hatch a shiny eevee for days now doing the shiny ditto method idk what I'm doing wrong can anyone help?
