Pinball & Pinball RS Ruby/Sapphire Edition: RS Review |
First Impressions

You turn your Game Boy on and you get a wacky start-up movie.Gotta be good, surely? Well, I say not to get your hopes up too much because it really isn’t that different from the original one based on Red and Blue. Still not too bad though.

Pros and Cons

The detail is good and it sucks you in a lot better than the original. I’d recommend you start on the Sapphire table for your first go and try the Ruby table afterwards, as Sapphire is probably easier. You can also go to bonus levels. They involve defeating Pokémon like Kecleon, Dusclops, Kyogre, Groudon and Rayquaza. There’s also another one that involves playing basketball with Spheals and Sealos, very cute and funny, my favourite area of the game. You can buy stuff in the Mart, such as a Pikachu and a Pichu where there was just two Pikachus in the original to stop your ball going down the side. You can also buy ball savers and better balls, i.e. Pokéball < Great Ball < Ultra Ball < Master Ball for multiplying the points from bonuses. The 200 Pokémon in Ruby/Sapphire provide more of a challenge than in the original. Not only that, but Cyndaquil, Chikorita and Totodile will pop up randomly. Great for showing off. It’s incredibly addictive, I might add.

However, the repetitive music gets so annoying! Reach for the volume wheel before it drives you mad and you chuck it at the wall. Also, it’s really frustrating when you just miss out on that Rayquaza. Unless you have rubber walls, I’d recommend not playing it too long. Be sure the RSPCGB don’t catch you. (Royal Society of the Prevention to Game Boys).

Overall

If you still want it, I’d try getting it cheap from eBay to avoid disappointment. That’s what I did and I’m pleased about how cheap I got it.

Thanks to Lickitung for this!
