Stadium 2: Gym Leader Castle: Azalea Gym |

There are three trainers to beat in Azalea Gym - Bug Catcher Chaz, Twins Min and Lyn and Gym Leader Bugsy. They're not too hard to beat, but they're tougher than Violet Gym's trainers, since their teams are more varied. On the whole, they favour Bug types.

Bug Catcher Chaz has the following team:
-Rattata
-Spinarak
-Geodude
-Paras
-Yanma
-Shuckle

Fire, Flying and Rock types are usually good against Bugs, but all these Pokémon have Ground or Rock moves except for Yanma. This means that they'll be super-effective against their weaknesses. To get past this, use Fire, Flying or Rock moves on Pokémon of different types - a Lickitung with Fire Blast or Meganium with Ancient Power, for example. Spinarak, Geodude, Paras and Rattata all know the move Dig as well, so it's a good idea to have something that knows Earthquake, Magnituden or Fissure on your team - all these moves affect Diggers, and Earthquake deals double the damage. Make sure you don't use Earthquake against Yanma, of course.

Twins Min & Lyn have the following Pokémon on their team:
-Pikachu
-Ledyba
-Clefairy
-Jigglypuff
-Hoppip
-Sunkern

The twins have a very varied teams. Half of the team only have one weakness as well, which makes things harder. If you can, try having at least one Ground and Fighting move on the team - all the better if they're on the same Pokémon. Fire moves should cover the others.

Another problem in this team involves movesets. Jigglypuff, Clefairy and Pikavhu all have physical weaknesses only. They all have the move Charms, which lowers your Attack stats - if you don't knock them out quickly, you might need to rely on Special-based moves to kill them.

Ledyba, Sunkern and Hoppip all know Sweet Scent. Fortunately, this isn't much of a problem, since only Ledyba has an inaccurate move. However, it does foil the plans of any fans of Sand Attack, Minimize, Flash and Double Team. These three Pokémon only have Grass and Normal moves, so a Gengar with an Ice move could kill them with ease.

Finally, the leader! Bugsy has this team:
-Butterfree
-Beedrill
-Weepinbell
-Scyther
-Pinsir
-Pupitar

This team seems easy to beat, but don't underestimate it. Bugsy's fond of using Scyther, but it's not really tough to beat if you know how - use Counter. With Fury Cutter, Slash, Wing Attack and Hyper Beam, Scyther's bound to be hit by Counter. Make the most of the move it takes to recharge from Hyper Beam, and remember that Fury Cutter isn't very accurate. Counter also works against Pinsir, Pupitar and Beedrill - they have no choice but to use physical attacks.

Watch out for Pinsir's Bind - Don't use Rest if you're up against Butterfree - it knows the move Nightmare, which will cause you damage and restore Butterfree's HP while you sleep.

As far as choosing moves goes, a Fire move will knock out all but Pupitar; bring a Water or Grass type along for quadruple damage against Pupitar, or bring an Ice type so you can use it on the Flying types Scyther and Butterfree as well.

Another easy gym cleared. You can now move on to face Whitney.
