Earl's Academy: Gym Leader Class :: Stadium Stadium Two

After passing the trainer class and being awarded a Pichu medal, you can move on to the gym leader class. Although it's more difficult, there are less battles to fight and the lectures teach you more advanced things.

There are only five trainers to beat this time, but you have to use advanced tactics to beat them.

Pokémaniac Joseph

To beat Joseph, you must use Pokemon who know moves that can cause status effects rather than status anomolies; that is, no poisoning or sleeping moves, but rather confusion moves and so forth. Choose Gastly, Raichu and Lanturn. Each one knows Attract, an attack and another status move. Use the status moves first (starting with Attract in the hope that the opponent will be unable to fight back), then start using your proper attack.

Kimono Girl Naomi

Naomi leads with a Murkrow and uses two Ghost Pokemon for back-up. Your aim is to use items to help you win. Choose Primeape, Politoed and Poliwhirl, sending Primeape up first. Use Thrash against Murkrow until it faints; don't worry about it being confused, since it'll recover with a Bitter Berry. When Naomi switches to a Ghost Pokemon, send up Poliwhirl. Poliwhirl probably won't survive the fight, but it's worth a try. Use Belly Drum to up its attack rating, use Rest to recover HP (it'll wake up with a Mint Berry at this point) then use Mud-Slap to beat the Ghosts. If it dies, use the same tactics with Politoed (who has a Miracleberry).

Lass Tammy

Tammy uses dual-types; your aim is to exploit the double weaknesses as well as the same-type-attack bonus. Choose Mareep, Wooper and Spinarak. They all have attacks matching their types, and are super-effective against Tammy's Pokemon.

Youngster Dustin

Dustin uses Dig and Fly and nothing else. To get past this, use Seadra's Twister against Flyers, Aerodactyl's Earthquake against Diggers and Magneton's Lock-On to hit the opponent with 100% accuracy.

Schoolboy Nolan

Nolan's Pokemon all have a high Special Defense rating and all know the move Light Screen. To combat them, use Jynx, Staryu and Mr. Mime. They all have purely physical-based moves as well as Light Screen for your own Special Defense.

That's all there is to it! Follow those tactics and you should get the Pikachu medal in no time.
