This unique project - no other projects are currently known that are trying to mimic this one - is creating a stand-alone program containing this information, without the need for a browser or something similar. There's hundreds of sites, all with a TM listing, an level-up movelist, and a few other tidbits - yet nowhere else than here on PKMN.NET can you find a program to use when you are offline, can't get on the net, and have all the information you want at your fingertips.
What does it cost? You might ask. And that's the best part - the program is downloadable for free! Just follow the download link, and you'll be ready in no-time.
Currently available is version 3.1. Data it already supports:
- Pokedex entries, including exclusive Green Translations
- A breeding page showing breeding groups, breeding compability and a list of breedable moves, with suggestion on how to breed for it
- A levelup moves list, which includes all those moves obtainable only by events
- Graph comparisions between up to five Pokemon, comparing their attack, defense, weight, height and much more
- Calculations on how easy a Pokemon is to catch, on its stats, experience gained from defeating it, and experience needed to level it up.
- TM lists
- Locations
- Through an option file, you can pick different Pokemon and pages to load when the program starts.
- Automatic checks at startup to see whether a new version is available.
- And a lot more interesting little things
- And all this for a large amount of the Pokemon games currently out there!
This all combined with an easy-to-use interface, behaving like a standard Windows program.
Two different versions are supported. One has the datafile it uses integrated in the executable, so you don't have to worry about anything more. This is currently the recommended version, and can be found as the first link.
The other version has a seperate datafile that we read from. This saves you some diskspace when updating the datafile.
A seperate datafile is also distributed. This is currently the same as the file in the other packages, but in the future, you will only need to update this one to get a new version of the data.
Pkmndex with internal datafile (Recommended)
Pkmndex with external datafile
Pkmndex datafile only
Now the sales pitch is out of the way, some other notes.
Although this is a full release, we would still appreciate any comments, errors, and bugs you have to report to me.
The program should theoretically work on any system that runs Windows 95 or higher. Running it under Wine is also said to work, but I can't guarantee this.
To address a number of common complaints: No, I won't add images to the Pkmndex. This is a concious choice both to keep the download size small, and to allow the executable to be used as a standalone program, without requiring seperate folders just to store other images. If you want to see the sprites, there are plenty of other places to find them - even on this site.
I can't make a Mac version. The GUI code is entirely based on Windows, and is extremely difficult to replace.
Colours is spelled with a 'u'.

I LOVE IT!!!
Does anyone know when they are going to make a new Pkmndex for Diamond and Pearl
I hope the next version comes soon. Diamond and Pearl Dex would be great.
It would also rock to have some pictures for each Poke, if possible.
ooh nice me wants diamond and pearl next
I want a Mac version. But, my opinions don't matter. I'll leave now...
Now I know the site I downloaded it from before! PKMN.NET! A special thanks to the crew ;D.
I think it would be great if you make a DP pokedex soon & it would be even great if you made it possible so that the Normal & the National dex could be viewed seprately, but please this time correct some off the old errors that are present like the attack 'Mirror Move' (which is a Flying type move) being shown as Normal type & Jigglypuff learning Rest not Smog at level 29
yah what darkblacklord said
a diamond and pearl version would be great but i bet that would take a LOT of time but he probally might possilbly make one but i don't think it be any time soon as it will be a while to make
Also, it would be great to have images for each Pokémon, since in the Main section, there's this blank space at the bottom, which could be used for:
A) Sugimori Art
B) DP Sprites, Male and Female
C) DP Sprites, Male and Female with animation
I hate me...
WOW... That is simply... wow... No pics but who cares!! That is freakin amazing!
This is really cool. I think pics would definatly be an improvement for the next version, but otherwise, its GREAT!
I don't think pictures are all that necessary. I mean, as already said, they're all over this site anyway, and it's not like you need to SEE the Pokemon in order to read up what they do and what attacks they learn (which, obviously, is why you would download the Pokedex in the first place.)
I'm going to download this when I get home (I'm at work with my dad at the mo, I don't think an all girl's school would appreciate a database of Pokemon on their desktop. :P
~Thanks Joeno~
I like it. It gets a few error messages though.
Well i checked the 3.1 version & it seems to have a lot of errors in the DP TM's section (like Ditto, Caterpie, Weedle learning TM's, & many more). Also the DP Tutor list should also be checked & it would be good to combine both the DP TM list & make a different page list for Move Tutors (combining both the DP & Pt list of MoveTutors in that) since Platinum has a lot of them (though i know you won't be releasing the Platinum version until atleast US version is out but still it would be good to be prepared for what to come). And at last i would like to tell that you should recheck the elemental hyperbeam moves for all the starters in both D/P & R/S/LG/FR/E since only the fully-evolved starter in R/S/LG/FR/E (& starters in DP) are able to learn them.
I hope the next version of yours is much more better than this one. And good luck on this project.
PS:- It would be good if you could add the R/S/E & D/P/Pt Pokedex list in the pokedex too (since this one is only based on the National dex not the Regional ones).
The newest version has a lot of errors in the effort values given department.
Only Windows can use it.....
page mew location makes the program crash
Colours is spelt with a 'u' in English. It is not a superfluous letter. It is simply how it is spelt in England - like 'mom' in America and 'mum' in England. Neither is incorrect.
I'm presuming that the author of this article is simply warming American users that colours will be spelt as is it is England - with a 'u'
