Merchandise Other Pages: Staks |

Panini, a company who specialise in collectable cards and stuff have released into Britain the newest Pokémon themed merchandise- "Staks". Like so many other Pokémon collectables, they also function as a game- which involves throwing things. The Staks themselves (the lack of a "C" make it cool), are magnetic, and unsurprisingly, stick to metal things- be it a fridge, a boiler, or an artificial hip, or even the game board.

There are 260 different Stak's to collect (presumably all of the Pokémon and duplicates for popular 'mon, like Pikachu, and the trainers?). You can buy these in packets of 3 normal Staks, and a special edition called a "Mega Stak" for only 75p- that's the equivalent of 75 penny sweets. The Mega type are "foil" and "thicker".

You can also pay 4.99 for a binder (pictured left)- this gives you a game board and a "special wallet".

How to Play

Now, this is the important bit- the reason why you collect Staks, and the reason why communism is kept a distant second to capitalism. If I were a Primary school teacher reading this, I'd be having a nightmare reading this.

The object of the game is throwing your Staks to specific areas on the game board- so to set it up, place the board vertically, so you can throw at it, or horizontally, so you can drop onto it (presumably from a height). The latter option may give an advantage to Ronnie Corbett, and a disadvantage to Dennis Haysbert.

Each players should take turns to throw a stack at the board, and different things happen depending on where you land. If you land on "1" (on the picture above, there's a Scizor on it), all the other players must give you one of their Stak, or "stack of Stak".

Land on a two (with the Politoad) and you'll end up obtaining two Stak, from each player, land in the centre, on the Totodile, which is number three and you can guess for yourself what happens. Somewhere on the board there is a five, land on this then you will be like Charles Darwin and Christianity, hated because of your ability to rubbish creation theory, or indeed, hated for your ability, and you'll be able to take 5 Stak from your opponents. That's almost 1.50's Stak money.

The penalties get worse- if you land on the "You lose" around the edge of the game board, you'll have to give your opponents a Stak each. If you miss the board completely, aside from looking a right idiot, you'll miss a turn.

We will try and get a checklist for Stak's soon.

I'll leave you with the words of the great Martin Luther King: "Hello, I'm Martin Luther King".
