After entering the Ranger Base, Joel praises you and promotes you to Ranger Rank 3. This allows you to use Poison Poke Assists, Psychic Poke Assists, and you have your Styler changed to allow you to use 2 Segments of energy, making Minun's Poke Assist stronger and it lasts longer.

Shortly after this, a man will run in saying that the waterworks are flooded with sludge, saying that Grimer were found deep inside. Being the only Ranger available, you must take the mission to capture the Grimer and remove them from the waterworks. Upon leaving the base, the man will shout to show where he is, so go to him and enter the waterworks. Once reaching the main section of the waterworks, you will see another Ranger who will take away the Grimer you capture, and will quickly run away; he cannot stand the stench. Walk over to the green puddle of slime to the south to find a Grimer fall, which you need to capture. Grimer spits out sludge on the floor and leaves a path as it moves, so try to avoid them. Each time you capture a Grimer, the sludge disappears, so look for the sludge to find a Grimer. The Grimer can appear in groups, so be careful.

In the south of the next area, a green puddle of slime can be found. Approach it to have 2 Grimer fall, which need to be captured. I suggest also catching a Drowzee so you can use the Psychic Poke Assist if you need help. Go down the ladder to find a room full of sludge. You can find Koffing in here, who summon smoke to hide and inflate when being captured. Skate to the other side to find a Raticate, which you need. Capture it and go back to the room, and go back up the ladder and go back to the water. Go back and cross the bridge and use the Raticate to remove the metal fence to go on. You can find a Croconaw in the next area, which I suggest catching. Move onto the next area to find another puddle of sludge with 2 more Grimer. After capturing them, move onto the next area.

In this area, you can find some water pipes. The left one only has a Drowzee and a Corphish, so go through the one on the right to continue. In this pipe, you will find Aria, who is shocked to see you. She mentioned that she is there to capture a member of the Go-Rock Squad who is rumoured to be inside. Follow her as she leaves to carry on. Go down the ladder to find another room of sludge. Skate to the other side and go up the ladder. In the next area, go through the water pipe to find another room and a save point. Move onwards to find another puddle of sludge with 3 Grimer. Go to the left to find Aria who tells you how to cross over ledges using Tangela. Climb the stairs to the north to find a Tangela, so capture it and follow Aria across. Tangela cause no problems, due to only needing to be circled twice. A Meditite can be found to the north, and there is a pipe to the left. Capture the Meditite and follow the pipe and go through the next pipe on the left. Follow the path to the left to find another puddle of sludge with 3 more Grimer. After capturing these, the Ranger smells a worse stench, and goes off to investigate. Go follow him to find a Muk, the reason why the waterworks smell so much. Joel messages you to ask you to capture it as part of your mission, so approach it and capture. Use Drowzee for an easy win. The Ranger leads the Muk and Grimer away, and Aria appears having not found any Go-Rock members. As this mission ends, a Go-Rock Squad member can be seen to the north...
