Section: Pokémon around the world

The excellent Emerald Milotic has sent us a report back on what he saw at the event. Yeah, we're a bit late posting this, and this is entirely Psythor's fault.

This news item is more than 45 days old. Updates are unlikely and newer information may already be available.

Our Emerald Milotic has even gone to the trouble of writing it for us- hooray!:

After wandering blindly through the Milton Keynes Centre for a while, I finally managed to find the promised pokémon stall. It was larger than I expected, so I stumbled around it for a while, looking at the activities on offer.

All of the noise and bright colours were a bit overwhelming, so I stood at the end of a queue of people to retreat. Before I knew it I was at the front of the queue, and somehow came away with Suicune. It wasn't so terrifying, so I queued again, and this time was allowed to download four at once in exchange for lending someone my SP.

It was around this time that I met up with my lovely assistants Stace and Kim [not of PKMN.NET fame], so feeling somewhat braver I had another snoop around the place. I sort-of met Yoshi!, who I appreciated by poking in the arm and waving a Kyogre keyring in front of his face, but he was busy battling so was probably more confused at this than I was.

The previews of Mystery Dungeon and Link baffled all of us, but I still have a brainwashed urge to buy those games, even if I won't be able to play them properly. The styluses were attached to the stands with wire, except for, typically, the one we queued up to use, so we proceeded to smear our dirty fingerprints across the screen instead.

Luckily, those lovely assistants managed to pounce on a free machine with stylus, so we were able to baffle ourselves properly.

The "cinema section" was at the other end of the stall-place, but it was so popular and crowded with people that we decided to leave it.

Round about this time I bumped into Get_in_your_ball [alias Frankie] who traded me Tyrogue in return for PokéRus, which was pretty much the only thing I had to offer anyway, and I also recieved Usaring from his unnamed comrade. As he was about the only PKMN.NET member I actually had a legit conversation with, I took a photograph just to prove I met him. As you can imagine, this cheered him up no end, before he went off to continue his hunt for Mew.

Trading card games were being held across most of the tables, but we gave this a rest for several reasons: [1] I am rubbish at the trading card game, [2] I didn't have any cards with me and [3] The cards I do have are so embarassingly old that small children would laugh at me.

Instead, a woman invited me to have a go at this new game involving spinning plastic pokémon figures. How could I resist? To make a long story short, she beat me easily, but she had been playing it pretty much non-stop since we arrived. She was paid to do it though, so all was well.

Anyhoo, the game was surprisingly simple and quite good fun once I got my head around the rules, and it took great powers of persuasion on my lovely assistants' part for me to not somehow sneak off with the Murkrow figure.

As you can [probably] see from the picture, she is about to hand me a 10th Anniversary Pikachu trading card as a reward for my efforts.

Finally, we reached the best bit. Joy! The colouring-in table. Elbowing a few children aside who probably had a right to be there, I got to work colouring in a squirtle picture. Hey, I probably wouldn't have another chance to go to an event like this in a long while.

As proof that I did actually go to this event and it wasn't just a floating camera that was there, here's a shot of [some of] me hard at work.

Unfortunately, the small print on the back of the paper stated that the competition was for ages 3-7 only, though it at least meant that I could take my picture home and marvel at how sad I still am, after I had once again braved the Queue of Doom and downloaded pretty much everything I wanted, taking a silly amount of photographs as I went.

Because I can't think of a proper way to finish off this report, I'll just cram it full of said photos and hope that nobody notices the bad ending.

Were you there at the event? Did you perhaps see me there on Sunday but cower away from my ridiculous hat? Perhaps you even featured in these pictures! You probably won't need much prompting, but why not post a comment and tell everyone about it?
