Nintendo confirms the upcoming remakes of Pokémon Gold and Silver!

This news item is more than 45 days old. Updates are unlikely and newer information may already be available.

Nintendo have confirmed that as widely predicted, Pokémon Gold and Silver, as with Red and Blue a few years ago, are set to be remade!

The games are confirmed to be called Pokémon Heart Gold and Pokémon Soul Silver. I like them personally. So what can we expect? A complete graphics overhaul, new places (possibly an expanded Kanto? There's a lot more memory now) and of course, the updated Generation IV battle system.

From a purely speculative point of view, I'd be very surprised if the game wasn't for the DS (with the chance there for optional bonus DSi features now), and given the location of the Pokémon League, I expect Kanto to still be there. Come to think of it, I expect Johto to still be there as well.

Let's look at some crucial questions, which could well be answered as early as Sunday with the latest release of Japanese supermag CoroCoro:

I love Nintendo. Love them with me. <3<3

I just watched Pokemon Sunday. They had FIVE SECONDS OF GAMEPLAY!!! That kinda pee'd me off a bit. Also, all the guests fell over when the footage ended. It just showed the character walking round.....WITH CHIKORITA FOLLOWING THE CHARACTER IN NEW BARK TOWN!!! Looks very awesome. Also, I noticed new weather effects. In New Bark Town, I noticed the wind in the air. Go here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R4rPZe0CHBE (footage is about half way through).

I think the Time Machine will be used to transfer Pokemon back into the GBA games. Anyone else agree with me?

Why couldn't they just almost exactly/exactly copy Crystal(minus Suicune being part of the story), crappy sprites and all? As far as I'm concerned, the remakes of R/B were bad enough, and they had to do that to G/S/C, the 3 best Pokemon games in the history of main Pokemon games? Why do you mess these games up, Game Freak? (I'm guessing that the Apricorns are nonexistant/disposable plants/different Pokeballs, one of the things I loved about those games is the ability to pick Berries )

I meant to say pick berries AND NOT HAVE THE TREE GONE.

Why are people so hooked on the time capsules? They could just, y'know, remove it, which is what they will probably do.
solongandthanks on Tue 12 May 2009 13:36:20 UTC.
...Why does everyone keep talking about the time capsule as though it would connect to DPPt? The time capsule was to trade between two generations: HgSs and DPPt are in the same generation, so we can assume that they will have standard trading capabilities (as all previous same gen games have!). A comparison for the time capsule would be a way to trade between gens 3 and 4, and the only method we have for that is Pal Park, so it seems obvious that the same (or similar) will apply to HgSs connecting to either RSE or FrLg (ie. transferrable to gen IV, but not back to gen III). In other words, logically: HgSs trade normally to DPPt HgSs can receive from (but not send to) RSE and FrLg Time capsule presumably redundant, unless anyone can think of any other uses for it? Connecting to gens I and II, but that seems very unlikely.

Ooo... does that mean after the Sinnoh Series of Pokemon finishes, Ash will be back in Johto? =D Yay, I hope so. ^^
PsyduckRanger on Sat 16 May 2009 17:10:40 UTC.
I can answer one of those questions for definite; Nintendo has already confirmed, RBYFRLG and RSE are set at the same time, as are GSCHGSS and DPP, three years later. Go figure.

I hope I can get a Lugia or suicune and I'd like to see Kanto again (I wonder, is that guy that was buildin' that house thingy in Vermillion done yet?) I also wonder what Red's Pokemon are?

Don't worry Chikorita. I'll choose you like I did in Crystal. ;)
