The short? There's a Pokémon tournament in the gamerbase in Manchester on Saturday July 21st, starting at 10AM. More info and links inside.

This news item is more than 45 days old. Updates are unlikely and newer information may already be available.

Now, as you might have gathered, us PKMN.NET people are a busy lot. Busy with things that aren't PKMN.NET, that is. It's life for ya.

(Actually, now that I have a chance for it, a new version of our PokéDex is being worked on. More to be shown another time. Anyway...)

We were informed a few days ago that there will be a tournament, partially organised by PokémonWorld, in the gamerbase in Manchester on July 21st at 10AM. There's some pretty cool stuff there and might be slightly impressive, so if you're interested in that sort of thing, have a look and sign up... I'd explain more, but my knowledge of competitive battling sort of ends at the time when a Pin Missile Jolteon was one of the most effective Mewtwo killers... Just look at their page.

To expand more and encourage you slightly though, we can add a bit more. In the interest of hanging out together and because we felt like hanging out, some of us staff were in Manchester yesterday and decided to have a quick look, making sure we see the location is up to scratch for you well-deserving readers.

First, location, simple. Assuming you arrive at the right place. If you leave Manchester Piccadilly (assuming, of course, you arrive by train. Why not, right), you just turn right, follow the road, and see it on your left after a while (watch for the trams!). Full points for findability, absolutely, so don't worry about that - even our most directionless admins were and are able to find the store.

The HMV is fairly big (with nicely priced Star Trek DS9 and Voyager boxsets. We needed our geek out moment and were looking for it. Sorry to disappoint with our lack of whateverness). The whole basement floor has games... but what you want is the slightly darker room at the back, mostly illuminated by video game screens.

While we got an odd look or two as we stepped in, during the tournament you'll probably be more clear on where to go, so don't worry about that.

If you feel the need for a lunch break or such, don't worry too much. While they don't have food inside the gamerbase, there's plenty of places in the nearby shopping centre. Most important, one of the only three Taco Bells in the country are near, so you really ought to try that.

If you're interested, sign up, and let us know here or on the forums how it went. And do us proud, as Kyriakou did recently. Good luck!

Thanks for posting this :)

Glad you managed to visit the venue yourself to check it out. One thing to add though, is that while there was the rather small Gamerbase area to the right when you go downstairs (this will be where to sign up) there is also a dedicated tournament room. This room is to the left and is only used for special, larger events when more space is required.

Hopefully some of you can make it :D

Joeno is very cool and sweet for doing this. I will be the MC for this event (That's Master of Ceremonies, not Manchester City lol) and will be wearing my usual pokérob shirt so if you need any help do come up to me on the day!

Other then that it's a great day to attend anyway as a pokémon fan, you might as well enter and you might win something in the raffle just for entering!!
