Gen VI games will feature a new 3D world, new Pokémon and be exclusive to the 3DS. More soon! UPDATED! More names!

This news item is more than 45 days old. Updates are unlikely and newer information may already be available.

It's official!

The 6th generation of Pokémon is on it's way!

Pokémon X and Pokémon Y will be available exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS, and will be released worldwide during October 2013. That's right folks. No more 20 year wait for the games to be released outside of Japan, this time we're talking WEEKS.

And this time it looks like Pokémon has been taken to the next level. A full 3D world you can explore. Swinging on vines. Rollerblading around (probably easier to code in 3D than a bike). Previous generations of Pokémon seem to be included. Oh my.

There's a snippet of two new legendaries in the video, but excitingly we got the three brand new starters revealed as well!

Watch the video below. Pictures tell a thousand words!

UPDATE - Legendary Names!

Our new letter-influenced Pokemon have names now! The deer is called Xerneas and the bird is called Yveltal. How awesome.

It's gotta be well over 700, since Gen 5 went to 649. I can't imagine we're only getting 51 new Pokemon.

@Ritchie Agree with the fact that there HAS to be more than 51 new Pokemon. The second gen was the smallest introduction we have ever had at a total 101 new Pokemon. The fourth gen comes second at 107 new Pokemon. The fifth Gen had the largest number of new pokemon at 154 since the beginning and actually had three more new Pokemon than Gen one.
