In his anime debut Trip quickly established himself as the latest in a long line of Ash's rivals (his clingyness really did not help matters).

After choosing a Snivy as his starter pokémon he proceeded to beat Ash in their first of many battles (due to the depowering of Ash's Pikachu by Zekrom) before parting ways.
