May, whose Japanese name is Haruka and was originally rumoured to be called Kimi, joins Ash (Brock returns a little later) on his journey through Hoenn in season 6, entitled Advanced Generation. She is a starting trainer, like Ash was when he began his adventure. It is unknown where exactly in the Houen region she comes from, but her father runs a gym in Petalburg City (where she most likely comes from), but she started her adventure in Littleroot Town. She has a father who runs a gym in Petalburg City called Norman, and a little brother called Max (who also follows the gang around). She started her adventure in Littleroot Town, following Ash and Brock around, and got her first pokémon from Professor Birch.
