Do you need to find out what type of Hidden Power your Pokémon has? Hidden Power has the power to give a Pokémon a move with a type that it could not usually learn. The problem is, its a gamble and its hard to figure out what type of Hidden Power your Pokémon knows. To help you find out, try using this flow chart that our own Iceduck designed.

All the wild Pokémon battles described here can be fought between Violet City and Union Cave as long as you have an Old Rod.


1: Fight a Pidgey. What was the message?

• No effect - go to 2.
• Not very effective - go to 3.
• Super effective - go to 4.
• No message - go to 5.

2: Fight a Geodude. What was the message?

• Super effective - it's a GROUND type.
• No message - it's a GHOST type.

3: Fight a Magikarp. What was the message?

• Super effective - its a GRASS type.
• No message - it's a BUG type.

4: Fight a Geodude. What was the message?

• Super effective - it's an ICE type.
• Not very effective - it's a ROCK type.
• No effect - its an ELECTRIC type.

5: Fight a Magikarp. What was the message?

• Not very effective - go to 6.
• No message - go to 7.

6: Fight a Bellsprout. What was the message?

• Super effective - it's a FIRE type.
• Not very effective - it's a WATER type.
• No message - it's a STEEL type.

7: Fight a Geodude. What was the message?

• Super effective - it's a FIGHTING type.
• Not very effective - go to 8.
• No message - go to 9.

8: Fight a Zubat. What was the message?

• Not very effective - it's a POISON type
• No message - it's a FLYING type.

9: Fight a Zubat. What was the message?

• Super effective - it's a PSYCHIC type.
• No message - go to 10.

10: Fight any Ghost or Psychic type. What was the message?

• Super effective - it's a DARK type.
• No message - it's a DRAGON type.

The quickest way to find out any Hidden Power - even discovering Dark or Dragon only requires attacking 5 Pokémon.
