First stop on the Pokemon League is Lorelei. She uses Ice type Pokemon, and Electricity is by far the best way to own her - all of her Pokemon fall victim to a few Thunderbolts from Raichu (or Zapdos). The most awkward Pokemon are probably Slowbro and Jynx. Slowbro loves using status changing attacks to muck up your plans, whilst Jynx prefers to put you to sleep before hammering you with Ice Punch. Just keep healing yourself and attacking. They should fall reasonably easy.

Bruno's choice of Pokemon are Rock and Fighting. The first Onix is a joke. Surf usually knocks it out in one shot. Then along come the problem trio: Hitmonchan, Machamp and Hitmonlee. Use Psychic attacks and Flying attacks (Aerial Ace works well), and with a bit of luck and a bit of reviving, they shouldn't take too much effort. The last Onix isn't terribly kind either. It's shockingly quick and loves using Earthquake. One or two Surf's should take care of it, though.

Meet Agatha. She uses Ghosts and Poison types. Although Psychic is the best option here, it isn't necessary. The first Gengar will use Double Team about a hundred times, and then poison you with Toxic. Be quick and get a couple of Psychic (or even Electric) moves in, and Gengar should be asleep before the cows come home. Golbat is an absolute joke. One Thunderbolt should KO it straight away. Arbok is certainly the most annoying. It's Sludge Bomb is lethal. Revive and restore HP regularly. Haunter and the last Gengar just fall victim to Psychic and Electric attacks.

It's our favourite Dragon Master - Lance. Gyrados hates Electricity - one Thunderbolt should kill it, or come very close. Both Dragonair's are taken down with Ice, and Aerodactyl can also be taken down easily with Electricity (or Water, possibly). Then comes the sting in the tail - Dragonite. Lv60. OMFG. Prepare to use Ice attacks an awful lot and to do a lot of healing. Lance can shoot himself in the foot, though. He loves using Hyper Beam (2 moves in a row for you!) and Outrage (You wanna confuse yourself that's fine by me).
Your Rival is very awkward, as is his timing. He has a standard set of three Pokemon, and the rest alters depending on what your starter was:

Pidgeot falls the easiest to Electric attacks, but is horribly tough. Rhydon is definitely the weakest of all your rival's Pokemon (one Surf attack KO'd him for me). Alakazam is by far the most awkward - Recover and Reflect will stop you in your tracks for a good while. The best thing to do is give him a status condition and then throw out your best physical attacker (I wouldn't like to try and get past THAT Special Defense). Arcanine can also easily be treated with Water attacks. Depending on who you chose, Gyrados goes down to Electricity (like Lance's did) and Exeggutor, although having a lethal Egg Bomb, doesn't fair well against Fire. Then along comes the full evolve of your rival's starting Pokemon. They each have the next to most powerful attack of their type - Hydro Pump, Solar Beam or Fire Blast. The only good news with these is that they aren't the most accurate attacks (or in the case of Solarbeam, it usually takes a move to charge up). Simply counteract with the type strong against it, revive and restore health whenever you need to, and after a bit of luck, you'll defeat your rival.
Woo. You're the Pokemon League Champ! Now get ready to watch Prof. Oak congratulate you, register you into the Hall of Fame, and watch the boring credits roll. Woo.
