The Pocket Pikachu was
Nintendo's attempt to bring together two of the biggest fads in Japan of the
90's. The Pocket Pikachu is a virtual pet game, about the size of Pokémon Mini,
and as the title suggests, you have to look after a Pikachu. The clever thing
was, it has a Pedometer in it. In other words, it counts the number of steps you
take by sensing up and down movement. Apart from adding to the game, this could be
used to encourage kids to exercise, or clip virtual pets to washing machines.
Either way, it was successful and rewarded itself a colour sequel.
The object of the game is to keep Pikachu happy. To do this, you need to give it watts. You could either run around a lot, or play a slots style game where you gamble watts.
The unit also features an alarm and clock function, which once got my old English teacher to have a go at the class because she heard a pager...

Here you
can see Pikachu taking a bath. Judging by where those bubbles are coming from, I
think we can come to the conclusion that Pikachu has been eating a lot of beans.
To the
right you can see Pikachu eating out of a saucepan, with a placemat, no plate,
and cup and some toothpaste around him. Thinking about it, maybe Pika's brushing
his teeth?
Its nice
to see Pikachu does the hard work too. Here you can see Pikachu working up a
sweat as it waltz's along next to you.
