First of all you will need to go to the Pokémon School to see your rival (the one you named). Once this has been activated you can get the chance to battle two Abra, we will skip this part as I’m guiding you on getting the Pokétch. Exit the Pokémon School and as you go past the school a man in a suit will approach you. He will tell you that he will give a free Pokétch if you bring him three special coupons.
He explains that there are three campaign clowns in town and below are the locations:
- Behind the Pokémon Centre
- Outside the Pokétch Company (West side of town)
- In front of the TV Station (North side of town)
Answer these questions and each clown will give you a coupon. Once you have collected the three coupons, return to the man (standing by the Pokémon Centre) and he will exchange them for the Pokétch. The Pokétch is a unique item which holds up to 25 applications (22 of them being available in the Diamond/Pearl game, the others being available through Nintendo Events); these are covered in the Pokétch Applications section.
Pokétch Applications Guide

It is a standard calculator which can be used in certain point of the game and for general use (good news for those who need a calculator in school, and excuse to play during class). The buttons also make noises when pressed.
Can be used to make notes during the game. Ideal for noting Pokémon and nature types you are look for? It comes with a handy eraser too lol.

The Itemfinder. A handy application for finding hidden treasures. When you tap the screen a circle will appear to indicate it is searching. If an item is present then the circle will repeat itself. When a dot appears it means there is an item within your vicinity
Records where ripe berries are located that you have planted
Shows you what the Pokémon’s current level is in the day care and whether an egg had been produced from two deposited Pokémon at the Day Care Centre. So it is great for Breeders and Trainers alike

Pressing the + button adds a unit (1) to the value. This can be used when EV training Pokémon as it allows you to keep count of how many they receive. It can count to 9999

When you first receive it a picture is present. Then once draw on it with the stylus it jumbles itself up. The idea is to try and restore it
This can also be used to make decisions. You can draw on the inside. For example Y=Yes and N=No. Spin the roulette and your decision is made
Shows the top three Pokémon seen using the Pokéradar
Used to keep time when cooking a meal and playing the game. When the timer reaches 0 Snorlax will pound his belly

Allows you to check your current party Pokémon to see whether or not they are capable for breeding. If the two Pokémon are compatible then the Luvdisc will move in to kiss/kiss. If they are a perfect match three hearts will be lit up. If they are sort of perfect then two hearts will be lit. If they are OK then one heart will be lit up. If they hate each other then the Luvdisc will face back to back and no hearts will be lit. The chosen Pokémon can be change by tapping the Pokémon at the bottom of the Pokétch
Can be used to time activities or events. In relation to the Kitchen Timer application, this one counts up rather than down which makes far more sense really
Handy for time relevant events on Diamond or Pearl. It can also be used as a wake up call in the morning (not recommended though as leaving your DS on constantly is bad for the system and battery) |
