Now before you get too excited and start thinking that they’ve brought this feature back let me tell you something, they haven’t. But Pokémon Diamond and Pearl do feature something quite similar, but quite a lot stranger.
This new feature involves spreading a new item, known as Honey (Not "Sweet Honey", just Honey) on certain trees around Sinnoh to entice certain Pokémon to them.
You first get Honey when you save the man in Floaroma Meadow from Team Galactic. From then on, one of the easiest ways to get more Honey is to buy it from the man for 100 Pokedollars.
Other than that, you'll will find Honey numerous times while playing through the game and you can even get it from Combee's special ability. It's like they're desperate for you to get your hands on the sweet stuff!
To use your newly gained Honey you will have to find one of the many big brown trees dotted around Sinnoh.
Found one?
Good.
Now, walk up to the tree and press the A button.
After a quick schpiel about the air smelling sweet, you are given the option to spread your Honey on it. Don't question it, just do it. Once you have done this you can go. Yes, leave that tree alone for a while. Come back at some point within twelve hours and you should find a Pokemon there, waiting to be battled by you!
If you wait too long then your Honey will have gone to waste so make sure you remember to come back. I know about this personally, I never remember.
Usually, all you'll find is a Wurmple, or possibly Silcoon or Cascoon, but don't worry, there are cooler Pokemon to be found using Honey. The best thing about it is that these Pokemon can only be found using Honey.
These are the Pokémon that are obtainable only through using Honey:
- Wurmple
- Silcoon
- Cascoon
- Aipom
- Heracross
- Burmy
- Combee
- Cherubi
- Munchlax (Only on the trees outide the Iron Works and Valley Windworks)
UPDATE!: After eight hours, all honeyed trees will contain a Pokémon (assuming they haven't run away). Remember - the longer you wait, the higher the chance of the Pokémon escaping.
Also, are you fed up of getting male Combees when you really need that elusive female? Fear not! If you save before checking a tree, and get the wrong gender, switch off the DS. The Pokémon species itself will remain unchanged, but its level and gender can change. Also useful if you want a higher-level Pokémon of the same species for quick evolution.
