Lovely, lovely people live in the world of Sinnoh. They're so lovely they're willing to give away rare Pokémon to you, a complete stranger who's just wandered through their front door without even knocking. Better make that rare-ish Pokémon - no Shaymin or Arceus just yet unfortunately.

There are four Pokémon you can get for free from Platinum however - three of which aren't found in the wild, so it's well worth getting them.

Eevee
Level 25

In the house next to the Hearthome City Pokémon Center you'll meet Bebe, who will give you your own little Eevee.

Porygon
Level 25

Upon arriving in Veilstone City, head to the house directly north of the Pokémon Center to receive your free computer program.

Togepi
Egg

Cynthia will give you a Togepi Egg once you defeat Team Galactic in Eterna City.

In addition, you can still receive a Riolu Egg from Riley on Iron Island, after you help him to defeat Team Galactic. So what are you waiting for? Oh you haven't got the game yet? There's always one...
