It makes you wonder if they're just trying to make you buy all of the games, doesn't it?

As I'm sure you'll have figured out by now, Pokémon has a nasty little habit of deciding to make certain Pokémon exclusive to one of the games, thus unobtainable in the other. But that's so 1997, Nintendo had to pull something more out of the bag this time.

Not quite sure why they couldn't just give us a complete game, or two completely different games mind..

Exclusive Pokémon

Black Version

Pre-National Dex

Cottonee

Whimsicott

Gothita

Gothorita

Gothitelle

Vullaby

Mandibuzz

Tornadus

Reshiram

Post-National Dex

Weedle

Kakuna

Beedrill

Murkrow

Honchkrow

Houndour

Houndoom

Shroomish

Breloom

Plusle

Volbeat

Now it wouldn't be a Pokémon game unless Nintendo had sneaked a few exclusive Pokémon under the cover and said 'Ssh' to them, so the above are completely and utterly exclusive to Pokémon Black. Unless you trade them. Then you've got them on both. And it's not against the law either.

White Version

Pre-National Dex

Petilil

Lilligant

Solosis

Duosion

Reuniclus

Rufflet

Braviary

Thundurus

Zekrom

Post-National Dex

Caterpie

Metapod

Butterfree

Paras

Parasect

Misdreavus

Mismagius

Poochyena

Mightyena

Minun

Illumise

It might be worth noting that this doesn't include the Pokémon that can be found in the White Forest, which will be explained further on in this page. Still, a nice collection of Pokémon that you'll need to trade over to Black should you want to see them there.

Black City and White Forest

Now Nintendo has a little ace in the pack, something extra to try and hide behind, or live in with this case, and justify the two seperate games. Two completely different locations in each version - Black City and White Forest.

Black City. I'd call it the city that never sleeps, but New York City would sue. Continuing in the games' theme, you'll find that Black City is very technological based and as a result, you'll find many, many trainers in the Black City ready for a fight with some high-levelled Pokémon.

Contrast this to White Forest. Peaceful, ruled by nature and undisturbed by technology, while one or two trainers have found their way here the forest in mostly home to various different wild Pokémon.

Aesthetic Differences

While these changes do not influence the storyline at all, a number of differences can be found within the many cities of Unova between different versions. The most startling difference can be found in Opelucid City. In Black Version, it is a very modern and technological city, with Drayden as the city's Gym Leader.

Whilst in White Version, it is a very rural and withdrawn city, with Iris as the city's Gym Leader.

Mistralton City also contains a couple of subtle differences, with greenhouses visible in Black Version compared to patches of soil in White Version.
