In HeartGold/SoulSilver there was the Pokéthlon, Ruby/Sapphire gave us Contests and now the folks at Nintendo have graced us with Musicals.

So, how does this differ from the Contests and Super Contests that we gamers have grown to love (and in many cases loath)? Well for one thing it requires a lot less input than you would first expect.

For one part the only way you can actually win this is through the correct choices in fabulous accessories and then using them to appeal to the audience as your Pokémon dances a merry dance to a choice of festive tunes.

As with the Contests and Super Contests there are four categories of Musicals, each with their own soundtrack.

If you get tired of the limited number of songs you will be able to download new ones from the Global Link .

Let’s Play Dress Up

Awww look how pretty the Audino is! At the first screen you can dress up your Pokémon by using your stylus to drag an accessory, stored in your Prop Case, onto the corresponding body part.

Appealing

After you decked your Pokémon in their finest garments it is time to wow the audience by outshining the other three competitors.

The procedure behind winning a Musical competition is far simpler than we have been used to in the Contests and Super Contests. For one thing moves are no longer used as a means of appealing (a good thing as Gunk Shot has no place in a Broadway show). Instead you are able to use your accessories to perform actions in time to the music in order to wow the crowds. The catch being... that they can only be used once.

This means that the key in winning top prize in the only alternative to Pokémon battling relies far more on accessories than it ever has before. It can mean the difference between first place and last.

So Now What...?

If you are only into playing Pokémon for the battling then feel free to ignore this section completely. In fact, get yourself a Lion bar and watch re-runs of Diagnosis Murder. However, there is a reason to give the Musicals a perusal.
