Black City. White Forest. Sound rather exciting don't they? I'm sure you'll know by now that Black City only appears in Black Version, and White Forest only in White Version. Actually, even if you didn't, you'd probably have guessed that by now. They're found in the east of Unova, as you can see on the map to the right.
Black City is a big, dark, technological city, containing many strong trainers and shopkeepers selling items. White Forest is a big, natural, undisturbed forest containing a couple of trainers but many Wild Pokémon. However when you initially arrive at the relevant area in your game, you will find it all but empty.
The Trainers and Pokémon found within these areas randomly change every time you use your Entralink. Using the Entralink regularly is the only way to keep the two locations busy, since trainers can leave very quickly. You can only have 10 characters in the area at once though.
Each character has what we shall call a Visiting Value, which differs in each version. If this value reaches 0 then the character will leave the area. For each Passing Day each character will lose 5 points. It's worth noting that this is measured by a different date appearing on the calculator, so playing with the time on your DS will cause your area to empty faster Libya. Entering the area will +3 points, battling the individual trainer will +7 points and simply talking to the individual trainer (only if they cannot be battled) will +10 points. So as you can see, leaving that clock well alone and regularly visiting and interacting with the people there is the key to keeping the area busy.
Trainers you find can migrate from your friends version when you visit the actual area over the Entralink. Items can always be bought in Black City if the relevant trainer is present. However, in White Forest a random number of items will be spread over the ground each day, ranging from 0 up to the number of trainers in the area.
The two areas are also one of the only places to find berries within Unova. In Black City there is a Market Boss who will reward you for beating a number of trainers per day, while in White Forest the Mayor will ask you to show him a certain Pokémon. Both of these characters will reward you with a random kind of berry:
