This episode is
essential viewing because: Ash catches a Bulbasaur. |
This episode starts with Misty, Ash, Brock, and Pikachu lost again. Ash is positive he knows the way and he and Misty begin arguing. They decide to stop for a break.
They see an Oddish drinking from a stream. Misty sends Starmie and it uses Water Gun and Tackle. Oddish is knocked out. Misty throws a Pokeball, but suddenly a Bulbasaur appears and knocks it away! Then it attacks Starmie. Misty brings it back and Ash sends Butterfree. It uses Sleep Powder, but Bulbasaur blows it back at Butterfree, putting it to sleep, and Tackles it. Oddish and Bulbasaur run away.
Later, the group comes to an old bridge. They are crossing when it shakes, and then it breaks and Brock falls into the water. Ash, Misty and Pikachu manage to get to the other side. They have to find Brock.
While walking, Misty falls into a hole that was apparently dug by someone. Later, she, Ash and Pikachu are captured in a net! They see the Bulbasaur, but it just leaves them.
Of course, Team Rocket has some plan about taking Pokemon from some secret village.
In the net, Ash comes up with some wild story about Brock being swept out to sea and being found by pirates, but then Brock arrives. He lets them down from the net. He tells them about how he was caught in the rapids and a woman had saved him.
He takes them to the hidden village, where the woman who saved him, Melanie, was. The place is like a Pokemon health spa, where Pokemon that are hurt or abandoned can rest and relax. Melanie takes care of them.
Misty teases Brock, saying how both he and Melanie like taking care of Pokemon, but Brock seems to like something else. He clamps his hand over her mouth.
Melanie says how she sets traps around the village to keep Pokemon trainers from coming there. Apparently, they work!
Meanwhile, Team Rocket is trying to cross the broken bridge, but of course they fall.
Brock tells the others that he promised Melanie that they wouldn't try to catch any Pokemon there. Misty asks if he sealed the promise with a kiss. Brock hits her over the head.
Team Rocket falls into a hole, then they get caught in a net.
Misty apologizes to Oddish. She said it must have been awfully scared. It tells her that it was abandoned because its trainer thought it was too weak. Misty says that she is worried she's becoming heartless and starts crying a little. Oddish wipes away one of her tears with a leaf.
Bulbasaur runs up and tackles Misty! Ash tries to challenge it, but Melanie says that its Bulbasaurs job to protect the village and that it doesnt like Pokemon trainers.
Then, of course, Team Rocket appears in a weird looking stadium thing floating over head with balloons attacked to it. They say their lines as they land. A big vacuum comes from the stadium and turns on. Ash saves a Staryu from being sucked up. Oddish almost gets sucked in, but Bulbasaur grabs it with its vines. Ash helps them get to the cabin.
Bulbasaur uses its Vine Whip on the vacuum. Ash has his Pidgeotto use Gust, causing a huge tornado which blows Team Rocket away.
Everyone is okay. Melanie offers Bulbasaur to Ash. She tells about how the place is too safe and none of the Pokemon want to leave. They should return to the wild. Bulbasaur says it will go if Ash battles it.
Ash sends out Pikachu. Bulbasaur uses Vine Whip, but Pikachu dodges. Bulbasaur tackles Pikachu. Pikachu tackles Bulbasaur. Bulbasaur grabs Pikachu with its Vine Whip. Pikachu uses Thunderbolt, shocking Bulbasaur. Ash throws a Poke Ball. Bulbasaur is caught!
Melanie wishes them a safe trip and thanks Bulbasaur for protecting the village. Of course Brock wants to stay. Melaniesays she doesnt want to keep him from his adventures, though. They leave as Misty teases Brock some more.
