Turning Over a New Bayleef |
Later on, Brock has prepared a meal. Bayleef wants to run towards Ash, but remembers that Ash doesn't want to be tackled. However, Ash assumes that Bayleef still intends to tackle him, and tells him off. As they eat, Misty notices that Bayleef has disappeared.
Bayleef is sulking by a nearby stream. It hits a rock into a hedge, causing several Beedrill to chase after it; it dives into a river to escape.
Elsewhere, the gang are unable to find Bayleef, and Misty points out that this is Ash's fault for being insensitive. At that moment, Pikachu catches Bayleef's scent.
Nearby, an old woman out for a walk with her Machoke finds Bayleef by the riverside. She takes Bayleef home, providing it with a stew. She invites Bayleef to stay with them, and Bayleef agrees; the woman introduces Bayleef to her other Grass Pokémon, Bellossom and Skiploom.
Having followed the river, Ash and the gang find their way to the old woman's house. They find Bayleef playing in the garden with the other Pokémon. Skiploom attacks Ash to keep him from the flower bed. He explains to the woman that he'd lost his Bayleef, but Bayleef is still annoyed. The old woman invites the group to stay while Ash and Bayleef sort out their differences. Ash attempts to bond with Bayleef by gardening, but Bayleef has no interest. Brock offers advice based on his experience with girls, but unsurprisingly, this doesn't succeed either. The old woman suggests that Ash shouldn't look sad, or Bayleef will also remain sad.
Team Rocket plan to steal the gardening Pokémon, and use a giant Bayleef robot to that end. They manage to snatch Pikachu, Bayleef, Skiploom and Bellossom. The old woman stand up to the Bayleef robot, and is almost crush, but is rescued by Machoke. Ash chases after them, trying his best to break the Pokémon out. Eventually, seeing how desperately he's trying to rescue it, Bayleef helps by tackling the glass cage. Finally, Bayleef manages to push the cage over. Team Rocket attempt to escape, but Bayleef teams up with Pikachu to destroy the robot.
On the old woman's advice, Ash apologises to Bayleef, and Bayleef proves that it can show more self-control. Better still, Bayleef learns the Body Slam attack.
