We enter the episode to find Ash engaged in a battle with a pretty lady named Josefina and her Smoochum. Ash says this battle is just to get warmed up.

Smoochum uses Sweet Kiss, but Pikachu dodged it. It used Sweet Kiss again, but just as it got near Pikachu, Pikachu used Agility and got out of the way of it then used Quick Attack. Then it was about to use Thunderbolt when Josefina said to stop.

But Ash was wondering where he could get some good training, and Josefina told him there was a place called Battle Park. They had almost every type of Pokémon there. So they decided to go there.

Now we see Team Rocket polishing Pokéballs. They're wearing park uniforms. They're very angry about having to do this. Another person in a uniform comes with another box full of Pokéballs.

They then hear the twerps asking them if anybody's there. Team Rocket doesn't answer, so they decide to leave just as Team Rocket comes up to them.

Of course Team Rocket has a plan to catch Pikachu. This time it's to use the Park Balls to catch it. Of course, they'd have to weaken it first. So they show the Ash crew into the room, and the twerps see a screen with pictures of Pokémon, but the screen says they are not available. They wonder how that could be with no people around.

But Team Rocket offers the Grab Bag special (three Pokéballs in a basket) and Ash accepts. They then walk to another part of the park, all the while wondering where everybody else is.

Team Rocket is in different costumes, sunglasses and leather jackets. They have the three Pokéballs with them. They need a judge, so Brock volunteers. They begin the battle.

James is the first one to send out a Pokémon. He grabs a Pokéball and sends out....

Venusaur! Ash checks his Pokédex. Venusaur stomps, making the whole park seem to shake. But Grass-Types do have a certain weakness, Fire. So Ash uses Cyndaquil. Venusaur uses Razor Leaf and Cyndaquil dodges it. The razor leaves hit trees, chopping them and making them fall. Then Cyndaquil uses Tackle on Venusaur. It hurts, but just a little bit. Venusaur uses Vine Whip, Cyndaquil dodges it, the vines hit a tree and chop it down. Venusaur hits Cyndaquil with a Vine Whip and then uses Razor Leaf. But the leaves don't hit Cyndaquil because it uses Smokescreen. Cyndaquil then uses Swift. It then uses Flamethrower. That hurts. There's no hope for Venusaur. Unless...

James tells Venusaur to use Solarbeam. A beam comes out of the flower in its back just as Cyndaquil shoots another Flamethrower. Cyndaquil tries to send the Solarbeam back to Venusaur using its Flamethrower but this fails and Cyndaquil is hit with the full force of the Solarbeam. Cyndaquil collapses.

Now Team Rocket argues about who should go next. Jessie ends up winning this argument and she throws the Pokéball to reveal a Charizard. Ash chooses his Totodile. Jessie tells Charizard to use Poison Sting and Charizard looks at her blankly. Then she tells Charizard to use Dig. Everyone is surprised when Charizard does Dig. Then she tells it to use Iron Tail, which, to everyone's surprise, it does know. But Ash won't be caught off guard next time. He tells Totodile to use Scary Face. Charizard does so too and the too have a Scary Face competition. Then Charizard used Flamethrower. It hit Totodile and Totodile is singed. But Totodile still has enough energy left to battle and it shoots water at the ground. But Charizard's flame hits Totodile and it faints.

Team Rocket argues over who should battle with the last Pokémon. It ends up being Jessie again who gets to battle with the last Pokémon, which happens to be a Blastoise. Ash chooses Pikachu, of course. Jessie tells Blastoise to use Skull Bash. Pikachu is told to use Quick Attack and Jessie tells Blastoise to use something that will reduce speed, she looks in the guidebook and orders it to use Bubble. Pikachu uses Quick Attack again. Blastoise uses Hydro Pump. Then Ash tells Pikachu to give Blastoise its best Thunderbolt. It hits Blastoise and really hurts it. Then Pikachu uses Thunder and faints Blastoise.

Then Jessie gives in and sends out Arbok. She has Arbok sent out then they use a hand thingie to grab Pikachu. They then take off their costumes to reveal their Team Rocket uniforms.

They also take the Park Balls, which the ranger is not happy about. Ash sends out Totodile and Misty sends out Politoed. Totodile uses Water Gun and Politoed just claps. Misty tells Politoed to use Water Gun. Politoed does so, the balloon breaks. Now Politoed goes back to clapping.

Pikachu falls out of the hand. Team Rocket turns to the three Pokémon, Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise but the ranger tells them they're only loyal when you're in the park. So the three Pokémon attack them, and Pikachu thunderbolts them. Team Rocket is blasting off again.

Now Ash and the others continue on the journey to the gym in Blackthorn City.
