Ash, Brock and Misty are walking down a road, when they come across a crossing. Brock informs the group that the right-hand path leads up a mountain. Misty declines but Ash wants to take that route. Misty reluctantly agrees, and the gang travels off towards the mountain. Eventually, they reach the mountain, which is covered in snow. Brock suggests they turn around, but Ash is determined to continue. They all keep walking, but eventually find themselves lost. Ash decides to send out Pidgeotto, to try and find a way off the mountain. Pidgeotto soon flies back, and the gang follow it.
Meanwhile, Team Rocket are (as usual) not that far behind. James suggests they get in the balloon and follow Ash and Co (why on earth they werent doing this anyway is beyond me). However, they are so busy performing their motto, they fail to see the balloon starting to fly away. They start running after it.
It then starts snowing heavily, and Ash telling Misty and Brock to hurry up. Brock suggests that it may be wise to stop and camp out for the night. They start to dig out a cave in the snow, when a sudden gust of wind blows Pikachu right out of Ashs arms! Ash immediately runs off to try and find his old friend, while Brock and Misty stay behind and continue digging out the cave.
Ash wanders around, calling out Pikachus name, when he eventually finds him- clinging desperately onto the edge of a cliff! Just as Ash reaches Pikachu, Pikachus grip fails and he starts plummeting downwards. Ash quickly sends out Bulbasaur, who catches Pikachu and pulls him upwards to safety.
Ash wants to return to Brock and Misty, but finds that the force of the snow is too strong. He decides to dig out a cave in the snow, but his hands get cold very quickly. Instead, Ash sends out Charmander, who quickly melts out a deep cave. They all get inside, where Ash sends out Squirtle and Bulbasaur, and orders them all to fill up the entrance with snow. They then all gather round Charmanders tail to help them keep warm.
Team Rocket meanwhile, have managed to construct an igloo. Theyre all freezing, and try to imagine themselves in hot places. Meowth and James both fall asleep, but Jessie soon wakes them, warning them that theyll freeze if they dont keep moving.
Meanwhile, Charmanders tail has started to die down. It suddenly occurs to Ash that the Pokéballs must be warm, so he returns Charmander, Bulbasaur and Squirtle. He tries to return Pikachu to his Pokéball, but as usual Pikachu refuses. Ash takes his jacket off and wraps the Pokéballs up in it, when suddenly, a hole appears in the wall, blowing freezing air into the cave. Ash gets up and places himself in front of the hole. Ash asks Pikachu to get into his Pokéball again, but Pikachu once again refuses. Ashs Pokémon all suddenly leave their Pokéballs and hug Ash. Ash gives in, and says that they might as well as be cold together.
The next morning, Ash wakes up to find that it has finally stopped snowing. He gets Charmander to melt away the snow at the entrance and they all climb out. Ash hears Misty and Brock calling out his name, and soon they are all reunited. They notice Team Rockets balloon, which has crashed nearby. Brock orders Vulpix to heat up the air inside the balloon, causing it to fly away again.
A short distance away, Team Rocket notice their balloon again and instantly start chasing after it.
Ash and Co continue their travels, until eventually they spot a small town in the distance. They decide to head for that, knowing that theyve finally overcome the Snow Mountain.
