May then says that she loves the ocean and that she would love to swim in it, mr. Briney tells her that they could go to the island which makes her really happy. Ash says that he’d rather go to Dewford City straight away and tries to get help from Pikachu but he relaxes. Then May tells Ash that he must agree with them which angers him. Max then starts to compliment Ash on how good his Rustboro gym match was and everybody agrees and that the island could become a good training before he challenges the gymleader. Ash says he agrees and Max says to himself that this always works and smiles.

They then stop at the island and May appears in her freshly bought bathing suit and jumps in the water. Max happily follows her and they start to splash each other. Brock and Ash also get excited and tell the pokemon that they should all go into the water but Torchic sadly chirps and Brock says that’s it can’t go in the water since it’s a fire type. Then May and Max start to scream and they are being surrounded by many Sharpedo. Mr. Briney sends out Wingull to save May and Max and they cling onto the Wingull. Wingull holds them in the air but Sharpedo keeps attacking them. Ash sends out Taillow who attacks the Sharpedo so Wingull can bring May and Max back to the boat. While they do that, a sharpedo bruises Max’s leg and mr. Briney tells them that’s because of Sharpedo’s rough skin. Though it hurt Max, he still think it’s a cool pokemon.

Pikachu thunderbolts the crowd while Wingull brings May and Max back to the boat but it doesn’t seem like the thunderbolt has much effect. Sharpedo then starts to attack the boat and Pikachu fires another thunderbolt and mr. Briney quickly drives off.

That night they arrive at the other side of the island where they camp out in the late evening. They start to eat and Ash says that they should go to Dewford now, but mr. Briney tells him that it will be very hard since the Sharpedo pod around the island. He points to the ocean where three Sharpedo are drifting through the water. Mr. Briney tells them that Sharpedo aren’t font of Sailors which scares May and Max.

In the meanwhile, Team Rocket comes out of the water with their submarine. The Sharpedo immediately starts to charge at the boat, but Jessie sends out her Seviper and Sharpedo gets stung by it’s poisonous tail. Then many other Sharpedo’s appear when their leader is hurt and they all attack the boat and they send off Team Rocket.

The next day, Ash is surfing in a box with Wingull and Taillow attached to it. With that they try to annoy the Sharpedo and to make them leave shore but the leader doesn’t fall for the trick. Though they close the gate with a fence but the Sharpedo rams into the fence and May falls in the water. Sharpedo immediately charges at May but Brock sends out Lotad which blocks Sharpedo. Max throws in a rope and pulls May to shore. Ash also comes running at her and asks if she is ok. Sharpedo then charges for Lotad and Brock orders it to use watergun but it ends up doing nothing. While Sharpedo is biting Lotad, Brock keeps ordering for Lotad to use water gun. After several times of asking, it attacks with a water gun and blasts Sharpedo away from Lotad. Brock wants to attack again but it keeps laying still in the water.

Lotad gets closer but Sharpedo keeps its eyes closed. Brock brings it to shore and says it’s probably poisoned. Brock then says he needs a lot of care and Lotad wants to help too. Brock stays with Sharpedo the entire night and the next morning it wakes up and sees Lotad and becomes angered. When he looks aside him he sees Brock sleeping against him, which immediately calms him down. He puts his fin on Brock and heads back to sleep.

Then the fence starts to break and Team Rocket barges in. They all wake up and Team Rocket captures Sharpedo and Pikachu by using a net. Brock tells them that Sharpedo is useless because it’s poisoned then Jessie tells them that her Seviper did that. Brock gets angry because of that and sends out Lotad to use razorleaf. The leafs breaks the net and sets Sharpedo and Pikachu free. Ash wants Pikachu to use thunderbolt but then tells Team Rocket that their new friends will take care of it. Team Rocket is confused and Ash tells them to look behind them. They look behind them as Ash told and they see the Sharpedo they’ve seen before. The Sharpedo attack and Team Rocket blasts off again.

Brock checks if Sharpedo is okay and Lotad jumps into his arms. Then the entire swarm of Sharpedo comes to Brock. Brock is frightened because he thinks the rough skin will hurt him but the skin feels smooth. Mr. Briney explains that they only use it against a prey or an opponent and May and Max go into the water and start to pet the Sharpedo.

Then mr. Briney brings them to Dewford City. They say goodbye to Sharpedo as they swim off and they thank mr. Briney for his help. Ash then gets ready for his second Hoenn League Badge!
