This episode is essential viewing because: Ash catches a Torkoal.

Ash and co walk on, and Brock says that they will hit Mauville city if they carry on walking in the way they are at the moment. Ash says that it is ok, as he wanted another battle with Wattson and wanted to see how hey were doing.

Ash and co come across a lot of big rocks. They then see a Skarmory and two Magnemites attacking a Torkoal. Ash says that him and Pikachu will help.

Torkoal falls to the floor. Ash runs to Torkoal, but Magnemite blocks him with Thundershock. Skarmory and the Magnemite fly off. Ash and co flip Torkoal over. Torkoal is happy and gets coal gas in Ash and co’s faces. A noise is heard by Ash, Torkoal and the others as Torkoal runs off.

Team Rocket are in their balloon as Skarmory flies past, and bursts there balloon, and they go blasting off already.

May is moaning as Brock says that he knows that they are going in the right direction. The Magnemite return, and Pikachu Thunderbolts them! May sends out her Torchic. May tells Torchic to use ember, and because of the direct hit, the Magnemite soon fly away. May and Max compliment Torchic.

Soon, an explosion is heard, and three Magnemite are bullying Torkoal. Torkoal is trying to fight them off with flamethrower. Skarmory returns, and attacks Torkoal, and so do the Magnemite. Ash and Pikachu run down to Torkoal and Skitty comes out of its poke’ ball. May asks Skitty what its doing, but Max tells her that she could use Skitty’s Assist to combine with Torchic’s flamethrower! May agrees and tells Skitty to use Assist, Skitty uses Assist, but its Beautifly’s string shot instead. It works, it wraps the Magnemite up. May orders Torchic to use ember and it sends the Magnemite flying away. Skarmory uses swift on May, so Ash tells Pikachu to use Thunderbolt, as he does, Skarmory aims at Pikachu. May asks Torchic and Skitty to help, but Torkoal stands in there way. Torkoal uses Flamethower, sending Skarmory flying away. Ash compliments Torkoal, as Torkoal falls to the floor.

Ash looks at his Poke’dex and gets the info. Everyone compliments Torkoal. Ash says that Torkoal was out numbered and could barely win. Brock says that this is the VALLEY OF STEEL! Max says that Nurse Joy says to stay far away from it! Brock says that it is home to some strong steel Poke'mon! Max says that we should turn back, but Ash and May want to continue through the VALLEY OF STEEL! So does Torkoal! Ash, Torkoal and everyone else hears that strange sound again and Torkoal runs off. Brock says that Torkoal was hurt by something else, Not the Skarmory, Magnemite or Magneton! Ash wonders what it could be.

Team Rocket are being attacked by a Magneton, as they go blasting off again! They land in front of a Steelix. Team Rocket shine the Steelik up, and the Steelix uses Iron Tail, sending them BLASTING OFF! Torkoal and Ash are reunited, and Torkoal uses Flamethrower on The Magnemite, and Torchic uses Ember. The Magnemite fly away. The gang come to a big cliff, and they see Team Rocket, who fall down the cliff! Next, May and Torchic fall down the cliff, but luckily grab onto a stick.

The Magneton returns and thundershocks May. Torkoal blasts it with Flamethrower. Ash ties a string to Torkoal and Ash, and h jumps down to May. Magneton returns, and Pikachu uses Thunderbolt on it!

May grabs Ash and Torkoal starts pulling them up. Magneton returns, and Torkoal uses Flamethrower, and the Magneton zoom off! Torkoal, Max and Brock pull Ash, May and Torchic back up. Ash says they should leave.

Magneton lands by Steelix, and Steelix is angry! A Steelix appears by Ash and Co, and Torkal Flamethrowers it, but Steelix uses Sandstorm to block it! Magnemite and Skarmory return! Torkoal uses Flamethrower on Steelix, but Steelix uses another attack to defend itself. Steelix uses Iron Tail on Torkoal, and just misses. Torkoal uses Flamethrower and it hits Steelix. It wasn’t very effective. Magnemite, Magneton and Skarmory get ready to attack, but Steelix stops them, it wants a one on one battle. Steelix tries to hit Torkoal, but it misses, Torkoal uses Flamethrower and it hits, not causing much damage yet again! Ash tries to remember what Flannery was using, he remembers OVERHEAT! Torkoal hits Steelix with overheat and it is super effective! Steelix get back up, but falls back down! Skarmory, Magneton and Magnemite watch in amazment. Steelix gets back up, but Steelix, Magnemite, Magneton and Skarmory leave. Torkoal makes Ash and co get dust in their faces yet again!

Max compliments Ash and Torkoal as Ash asks Torkoal if he would like to become part of the group. Torkoal agrees and hugs Ash. Torkoal starts crying!
