This episode is essential viewing because: Pikachu loses it's memory and joins Team Rocket, before returning to Ash.

Ash and co are still heading for Lilycove city. Pikachu is walking ahead of Ash and co, smiling and overall looking very excited. Being in the woods, the Earth below them begins to shake. Suddenly, a tree is falling directly for Pikachu. Before long, the tree hits the floor and Ash looks to see if he is ok. Team Rocket is the people to blame for the madness and they appear in one of their robots. The robot arm grabs Pikachu, Ash tells Pikachu to use thunderbolt, but it fails to affect the robot as it is yet again electricity proof.

However, one of the legs for the robot sinks into the floor because they’ve put too much wait on one side. Team Rocket keep running from side to side, but it just makes it worse. After it is repeated a lot, the machine explodes as it can’t take anymore. The explosion sends Team Rocket blasting off again, but wait! There are some new recruits to the ‘blasting off again crew’! As well as Team Rocket blasting off, so do Ash, May, Max, Brock and Pikachu!

Everyone lands in different places. Ash opens his eyes to find himself hanging on a branch, he also finds May, Max and Brock, but no Pikachu.

Jesse and James have landed by a tree, and they also realise that someone’s missing, it’s Meowth. Jesse refuses to find him, as he messes up a lot of things but James convinces her that they should.

Pikachu and Meowth are in a grassy meadow. Meowth gets up, only to be greeted by Pikachu. Meowth threatens about what he’ll do if Pikachu shocks him and starts ranting on about him and Ash and co. Meowth calls for Jesse and James, but after a few seconds, he realises that Pikachu is looking at him like he doesn’t even recognise him! Meowth carries on threatening, and goes for the attack, but stops just in time, after realising that he’s not being harmful. Meowth also realises that Pikachu has no clue where, what or who he is. Meowth show Pikachu the Team Rocket Motto, and teaches it everything it needs to know. Is this the end for Pikachu?

Ash sends out Swellow and Brock sends out Mudkip. Team Rocket is calling for Meowth.

While walking, Meowth spots a Zigzagoon in the grass, it hides behind Meowth and Pikachu and then a Beedrill appears. Meowth also hides behind Pikachu and Pikachu shocks the Beedrill.

Team Rocket know that there is a Team Rocket Lodge around the forest. They think that Meowth is either hiding or waiting at the lodge. Meowth and Pikachu are walking by a mountain and the ground falls underneath Meowth’s feet. Pikachu grabs Meowth and saves his life.

Mudkip has found some footprints. Ash recognises Pikachu’s, Brock recognises Zigzagoon and Meowth. The gang are horrified.

Meowth is wondering how he could get to the Team Rocket Lodge and find Jesse and James. Pikachu offers him an apple and Meowth accepts it. Meowth snaps it in half but one half is bigger than the other. Meowth gives Pikachu the bigger half.

Ash and co find the mountain where Pikachu saved Meowth. Swellow has found Pikachu and Meowth and is flying back to Ash and co to tell them.

Pikachu trips over and Meowth grabs it so the favour has been returned. They are getting close to the Team Rocket Lodge.

Jesse, James, Meowth and Pikachu have arrived at the Team Rocket Lodge, and Pikachu recognises Jesse and James. Pikachu gets ready to shock them, but Meowth quickly tells him that they are friends. Meowth tells Jesse and James what has happened and James almost tells Pikachu everything. Swellow flies past, and notices Team Rocket at the Lodge.

Swellow has returned to Ash and co and tells them about the whereabouts of the Team Rocket Lodge. Team Rocket is working on getting Pikachu to trust them. Pikachu jumps on James’s shoulder, but James gets nervous. Ash and co arrive at the seen, and Ash calls Pikachu. Pikachu jumps off James’s shoulder, but doesn’t go all the way to Ash. Pikachu doesn’t know who to trust. Team Rocket call Pikachu and Ash is shocked. Pikachu joins Team Rocket in their motto.

Ash tries to tell Pikachu to attack, but it just looks at him. James commands Pikachu to use thunderbolt, and it does, shocking Ash. Meowth also commands it to attack and it works. Brock thinks of the last time Pikachu was a friend, not foe, and he then remembers that Team Rocket’s machine must have blanked his memory out. Team Rocket tries to escape with their balloon, and Ash manages to grab onto the balloon. James tells Pikachu to attack Ash, but it manages to send the balloon blasting off accidentally.

Ash grabs Pikachu and then land in a river. Pikachu and Ash remember the good times. Ash passes out because he has been underwater for too long.

Ash washes up on a rock with Pikachu. Pikachu licks Ash and Ash is so happy he’s back to normal. May, Max and Brock find Ash, and Team Rocket land near them. Team Rocket are happy to see Pikachu, and call it back, although Pikachu refuses and uses thunderbolt, sending them blasting off again.

Ash, May, Max, Brock and Pikachu are all happy that everything is back to normal, and carry on to Lilycove city.
