The Ribbon Cup Caper |
As they make a tour around the boat while May reads a small book, they notice the ship’s pokemon center. Brock of course immediately flirts with nurse Joy and Max drags him off. May asks to have her Pokemon healed, but unfortunately Joy is a bit busy, so she set up a mini lounge for weak and tired Pokemon to relax and play in for the time being. May then explains that she’s entering the Grand Festival, but she decides to let her pokemon out of the pokemon as well to relax a bit. Of course, Joy has been getting a lot of other Coordinators lately, given the times. However, there has been a bit of a breakdown and the Festival may or may not have to be delayed...
When they walk off again, they notice officier Jenny entering the center and as usual Brock starts to flirt. Max drags him off once again, but then they realise it’s odd for officer Jenny to be in the center so they ask what she is doing here. Officer Jenny explains that they’re investigating the fact that a ex-Magma thief, Brody has been busy and seen on board. Ash and co remember Brody from when he was at the Weather Institute when they were on their way to Fortree City. Brody is especially good at disguising himself, as he fooled them for a while as a female scientist. While Team Aqua and Magma have both disbanded, Brody is still at large, Jenny warns them that given his knack for disguises, he could be anyone they meet, so they should watch out. They offer to help officer Jenny in order to find him and catch him and Jenny accepts.
Team Rocket are also in the center, disguised as workers and spy on the foursome. Their plan was on catching Pikachu but when Team Magma and Aqua is mentioned, their plan is on hold. They seem to remember Brody and feel that this is a chance to do what they originally went to Hoenn for, and help one-up a legendary notorious ex-Magma crook. Because it would certainly impress the boss.
As they continue to take a tour, they reach the museum where May instantly goes to the Ribbon Cup. She adores it and is determined to win that ribbon cup herself as she already images how it would be like to win that ribbon cup. Then all of a sudden a scream is heard and a security guard is chasing Munchlax who seems to be up to something. As they try to stop it, it steals a few cookies from the table, and bumps into the Ribbon Cup display. Luckily, Max has a few of May’s pokeblocks which calms it down a bit but they realise since Munchlax did bump into the display, a handle of the ribbon cup has broken off.
A bit later, they apologize to one of the judges but he explains that it can be easily fixed. But then he notices that this is not the same cup but a fake one since th einside is void. Just then, a little note falls out of the ribbon cup with Brody’s logo on it! Officer Jenny checks the card and confirms its from Brody. Team Rocket are watching this from inside the museum’s vent, and consider the possibility of not only helping apprehend Brody, but stealing the Ribbon Cup for themselves. The judge Contesta then tells May that because of this news, the Grand Festival may be canceled. But May is determined to get the ribbon cup back since she worked hard to earn all of her ribbons. So together with Officer Jenny and judge Contesta, they’re off in search of the ribbon cup.
They start off by questioning the security guards at the entrance of the museum. At first, they don’t remember letting any non-officials in. However, officials can count too in this case, and then they do remember letting a security guard in. He did act a bit shady, and did have something to take care of, but was in too much of a rush to say what. Seeing as they don’t remember letting anyone else in, not even officials, the pieces fit together. So, now they know he’s in disguise somewhere. The gaming room as well as the mess hall are both crammed with people, they’d never find someone that good with blending disguises just like that, unless they inquire every single one. But Jenny, the experienced detective, has the perfect solution for the problem and suggests to use a bait.
So they use a normal pokeball and spray a golden paint on it to make it a very special golden pokeball, which should be able to lure the thief or aka Brody. So they put it on a display where they are sure Brody would find and would steal it. When Officer Jenny put it on the display, Ash and co start to spread rumors about the golden Pokebal, hopefully managing on luring the thief. Later that evening, Ash has a conversation with Pikachu about the golden pokeball but he doesn’t keep his voice down but practically yells it throughout the room.
Later that night, Jenny and the others have put the pokeball on display and wait for the thief to make his move. When they hear somebody coming, they hide and see two people coming into the room. It appears to be Team Rocket in disguise and they want to steal the pokeball! Immediately, Ash and co accuse them of being Brody and some old Magma buddies, but they both just laugh at that saying that Magma and Aqua have disbanded, and are history, and Team Rocket will take over. It seems that the news about the Golden Pokeball got to them, and they beat Brody to it. But Pikachu releases a thunderbolt attack which sends them blasting off again before they can achieve thier plan. Ash and co hide again, hoping that Brody will now appear but a visitor interrupts them. It’s one of the sailors, who looks a lot like a captain, who warns Jenny that there’s mayhem at the Pokemon Center. Apparently Brody has been found, and he’s causing trouble there. They immediately hurry over to the center as the sailor stays at the museum and smirks widely.
As they head for the pokemon center they run into the captain which shocks them. He exclaims that the ship is closed and that its being guarded. In fact, they haven’t even had anyone try. The pieces then fit together and they quickly head back to the museum. They find Brody, who is still dressed like the official Ash and co met before, he tries to steal the pokeball, but they catch him! So Brody reveals himself as he remembers Ash and co from the weather institute and he doesn’t let himself get caught now. He sends out Golbat and lets it use Haze and Brody escapes. As the smoke clears, Jenny realizes that the Pokeball is gone and that Brody escaped! But Jenny comments on how she had a small tracking device on the pokeball so she can easily locate the pokeball’s location. As they follow it on the radar, it leads them to a young girl eating in the mess hall. As they accuse her of being Brody, he boldly admits to it, and runs off, dropping the costume on his way.
They figure he must have put on another disguise but they still have the radar and they follow it on the radar. They walk into the kitchen but there are several cooks and its hard to recognise Brody. While they’re too busy looking at the cooks trying to find some suspicion, Jenny realizes that once again the location has moved! As they reach their destination, Brody seems to have realized that Jenny’s tracking him down must have been in the Pokeball, because they find the Pokeball left under the stairs, and Brody nowhere in sight. Then the pokeball explodes as confetti bursts out of the pokeball, they realize he trapped them. Him being pretty fast is not much of a surprise, seeing as they remember how he escaped with a jet pack back at the weather institute. The closest way out from that area is the outside top deck, so they head there. While Jenny runs ahead, they catch up with her only to find her twice. It seems they found Brody but he appears to be dressed up like Officer Jenny as they both accuse each other of being Brody.
Brock then comes to the rescue and he immediately recognises the real Jenny since he’s a total fan of her. At first he starts going toward one, but then finds himself being immediately pulled towards the other one. That pretty much convinces who’s real and who’s the culprit Brody. Brody gives in, and takes off his disguise. They demand to have the Ribbon Cup back as he realizes he doesn’t really need it as much anymore since everyone knows its secret. So he throws it back but then out of nowhere a rope appears grabbing the ribbon cup. It seems to be Team Rocket in their balloon. As they are distracted by Team Rocket, Brody uses his chance to escape and grabs his jet pack again before officer Jenny has the chance of arresting him. Officer Jenny sends out Growlithe to stop them with Flamethrower, but Seviper’s Poison Tail wards that off. While Pikachu’s thunderbolt takes care of Seviper for a bit, Cacnea’s Needle Arm and another Poison Tail from Seviper hit but Flamethrower and thunderbolt take care of them. A final Thunder attack blasts Team Rocket off once again!
Now that the ribbon cup is back and safe on the display again, Contesta and Officer Jenny thank them for their help as they arrive in Slateport City where the Grand Festival wil take place and where May will enter and participate!
