They overhear some trainers talking about a competition, and Nurse Joy explains that Pokémon orienteering begins the next day. The purpose is for trainers and Pokémon to work together, and the winner earns the Pokémon teamwork medal, as well as a sample of the island's famous fruit.

That night, May chooses to use Eevee, Brock decides to use Bonsly, Ash his Pikachu, and Max borrows May's Munchlax.

The following day, they leave their other Pokémon in the nursery, and are told the rules - they need to find five stamps, using only their map and their compass.

Nearby, Team Rocket are in disguise, keen to win the medal and the fruit; Meowth is disguised as a Sneasel.

The race begins, and Ash decides to head for Rainbow Falls, and May for the ocean. Brock tells Bonsly not to rush, lest it run out of enery, and head for a 300-year-old tree. Nearby, Max struggles to keep up with Munchlax.

James heads for Moon Rock with Mime Jr, and Meowth and Jessie head in a straight line, planning to handle whatever they find.

Ash and Pikachu are taking a short cut across a narrow bridge over a canyon, and are nearly blown off by a gust of wind. May and Eevee dash across a river, using stepping stones, and May falls into the flow. Meanwhile, heading through the woods, Brock comes across Nurse Joy. He attempts to run towards her, love-hearts in his eyes, but Bonsly attacks him.

At the Moon Rock, James and Mime Jr find the Lunatone stamp. Jessie and Meowth have arrived the ocean, and wonder what to do next.

Ash arrives at Rainbow Falls, attaining the Remoraid stamp, while at the same time, Brock gets the Pineco stamp from the 300-year-old tree. Finally, May gets the Kingler stamp at the ocean.

Jessie and Meowth decide to let James do all the work, and set up traps to hurt the others' chances. They find a cliff that's a short-cut, and try pushing James into climbing it, but he refuses for Mime Jr's sake.

Soon enough, Ash secures the Kingler stamp, and May the one from the Lunatone stamp.

After a lunch break, James acquires the Kingler stamp, but the others come across all maner of nets and pitfalls of Team Rocket's doing. May gets a Skarmory stamp, and bumps into Max on a rope bridge. As they ask about each other's stamps, Jessie and Meowth cut the bridge. It starts to fall, but Ash and Brock arrive and pull them up.

Back at the Pokémon Centre, Team Rocket net the nursery Pokémon, and steal the fruit. Unnoticed, Swellow manages to escape and fly away. It arrives at the gang, and they race for the Centre. Jessie and Meowth recite their motto, and in doing so allow the others to free the Pokémon. A quick battle between Dustox and Donphan ends when Donphan uses Hyper Beam to get rid of the others.

Later on, James is awarded the medal - he's won. Nurse Joy asks if he'd donate the fruit to Ash and the gang for saving the Centre, and he agrees, happy with his medal.

The gang agree that they had a great time, with a rare opportunity to spend quality time with their Pokémon, and finally, May learns that the nearby Wysteria Town is home to a Pokémon contest.
