This episode is essential viewing because: Ash wins his 2nd and 3rd Pokémon League matches.

This episode begins with Ash having his final match on the Rock field. He and his opponent each have one Pokémon left! The opponent sends a Nidorino. Pikachu thinks that hell be sent, but Ash sends Squirtle. Nidorino charges at Squirtle, and Misty wanrs Ash that its using Tackle. Ash tells Squirtle to Withdraw and roll. Squirtle goes into its shell, and Nidorino rams into the rock its on, shattering it. Squirtle rolls away on its side, Nidorino in pursuit. Squirtle rolls ride up the side of a rock, and into the air above Nidorino! Ash tells Squirtle to use Water Gun, and it does, smashing Nidorino into a rock. Squirtle finished the Nidorino off with Skull Bash. Ash wins, and the crowd cheers.

Gary and his cheerleaders see. Gary says that Ash won two easy battles, and acts like he won the whole competition! Gary says Ash better enjoy his luck now. He and the cheerleaders leave the stadium. Outside, Jessie, James and Mewoth are hiding in trash cans. Jessie says its a cruel twist of fate. While thousands are inside rooting for Ash, theyre outside, rooting through trash! Meowth says they have to come up with some plans, and get out of these cans! (dont you love all this rhyming? =) James says he has a plan to capture Pikachu that he knows. So lets get on with the show!

At a house, or hotel or something, Brock is there, while Pidgeotto, Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Kingler eat some Pokémon Food. Misty comes in, carrying Togepi, as usual. She asks where Ash is, and Brock says he and Pikachu left to get something to eat. Misty gets mad because Ash didnt take his Pokémon to the Pokémon Center, first! Brock says Ash said he was really straving. Misty says the Pokémon will get worn out. Togepi reaches for the food, and Misty sets it down. Squirtle offers it some of its food, and Togepi eats some and looks cute. =)

Ash walks through the town, Pikachu riding on his head. Ash says battling works up an appetite. He says he wants to go to a restaurant he say that morning, but cant find it. Ash says he could have sworn it was here! He sees a bunch of posters and billboards around advertising Pokémon in Love, though. He also sees that a Pokémon Parade has started, with giant Pokémon floats! The song Viridian City is playing in the background. Misty and Brock see Ash and run over, Brock carrying Ashs Poké Balls.

Ash says that he was just a bit lost. Misty asks if hes going to take his Pokémon to the Pokémon Center, or did he forget? Ash says he was just going to get something to eat, first. Misty says he should, and Ash says that hell tkae them their right away. They walk to the Pokémon Center, and Misty asks Ash where hes fighting next. He says its the Ice field, so the other guy will probably use Ice Pokémon, so hell probably stick with Kingler and Squirtle. They come to the Pokémon Center, but there is a huge crowed of people! Nurse Joy says that the Pokémon Center is full, and if your Pokémon needs emergency help, to go to the nearest Pokémon Center.

Brock acts all weird, and says that thats the Pewter City Joy! Misty asks how he can tell them apart. Brock says that what she cant see, if very clear to me! Misty says that Brock is a poet, she didnt know it. =) Ash then spots a place that says All You Can Eat! Misty says they have to get his Pokémon to a Pokémon Center, and he says he has to eat first. what if he collapsed while looking for another Pokémon Center, how would his Pokémon feel then?

Ash and Pikachu go inside, and see a buffet full of food. But Ash doesnt have any money! A lady asks if Ash wants a plate, and he says only if its a collection plate. She says to take it, Ash can eat free! Ash stupidly thinks shes ltetting him eat for free because shes a fan of his. He gets some food, and Misty comes in. Ash tells her how that lady let him eat for free, and Misty tells him that all Pokémon trainers in the competitions eat for free! As they talk, Togepi jumps to the floor, and starts tugging at a tablecloth, pulling a basket of forks and knives closer to the edge! Pikachu jumps to push Togepi of of the way, but it toddles off, and the knives lands around Pikachu, and he catches a fork in his mouth. =) Ash asks if Misty has seen Brock, but she doesnt know.

They go outside, where dozens of Joys and Jennies are running around! Brock is there, and says it doesnt get much better than this! He starts chasing various Joys and Jennies around, asking if they remember him. Misty says hes gone crazy. They go to a Pokémon Center, but its full, too. Then Ash sees someone in an alley, and they go over. Its James, dressed in a nurse outfit. He says they have a Pokémon Center that isnt crowded, and has its very own Nurse Joy! Brock hears, and comes over.

They all go over to the Pokémon Center, which is just a big box with a Poké Ball on the top. They go inside, to see an odd looking Nurse Joy. Misty says something doesnt seem right, and Borkc says it must be, because theres a Nurse Joy! Ash gives James his Pikachu, and the other Poké Balls. Brock notices that hes not acting all weird like he normally does when hes around a Nurse Joy. Misty and Ash says that maybe he wasnt prepared for them, and he says he must be having a Joy overload.

Jessie and James, hearing the word prepared just cant resist. They throw off the costumes, and start saying their motto. Brock says that his Internal Joy Detector (or something like that) is always accurate! The fake Center falls apart, revealing the Meowth balloon. Team Rocket starts flying away, with Pikachu! But Brock sends Onix, who grabs the balloon, lowers it so Ash can get Pikachu, then tosses it away. Later, Joy says over some speakers that the Pokémon Centers are accepting Pokémon, so they rush to get to them.

The next day, Ash is battling on the Ice field. He and the other guy, Josh or something-or-other, have two Pokémon left. Ash is using Kingler, and Josh sends Cloyster. Ash tells Kingler to use Crab Hammer, and Cloyster uses Withdraw. Kingler hits Cloyster again and again, but doesnt seem to be hurting it. Ash says he doesnt want Kingler to get worn out, and should swithc. Misty says that Cloyster must be losing hitp points! Ash tells Kingler to hang in there. Kingler hits Cloyster some more, cracking its shell! Cloyster has fainted!

Josh then sends Arcanine! Ash figure itll be easy, since its a Fire type. He tells Kingler to use Bubble, but Arcanine dodges. Then it uses Dragon Rage, and Kingler is defeated! He calls it back, and sends Pikachu, who uses Agility, running circles around Arcanine. Arcanine uses Fire Blast, but Pikachu is too fast. Josh says Ashs only chance at winning had melted away! Arcanine starts breathing fire all over, melting the ice! Soon, only two little pieces of ice are left, so Pikachu cant use Agility! Arcanaine gets ready to use Fire Blast. Brock tells Ash to have Pikachu dive under water! It does, just as the Fire Blast goes by. Pikachu swims over to Arcanine. Brock syas Ash should have no problem now. Ash is confused, and Misty reminds him that water conducts electricity! Pikachu uses Thunderbolt, defeating Arcanine. And Ash wins, yet again.
