"Fresh from a defeat over Pokemon Master, Prima, Ash and friends arrive in a quaint little village," the narrator says. Defeat?! What's the narrator on? Ash, Misty and Tracey see a girl looking for her pokemon, a female Nidoran nicknamed Maria. Ash looks it up in his Pokedex and gets a male Nidoran. He finds the right one and they decide to help her find Maria so they started searching for her. They search in a beautiful park and meet a boy, who has also lost his Nidoran who was apparently a male. The girl sees him and they begin to argue and fight with a sticks. Marril finds somthing and the two kids trample Tracy in their haste. They find their Pokemon behind a bush. They take their pokemon back and walk off in opposite directions.
Ash and Co. go to a restaraunt. The owner tells Ash, Misty and Brock that Ralph and Emily (that's their names) apparently always catch the exact same Pokemon and that's why they always argue. As dusk falls, and Ash and co. aimlessly wander the streets, they see Tony. They chase after it and see it go to Maria's house. Tony talks to Maria (like the Balcony scene out of Romeo and Juliet). Misty tells Ash and Tracy that Tony was talking 'sweet talk' and Ash pretends to be sick. Misty retorts by saying he's too imature and he begins to cry!
When Emily sees her Pokemon talking to Tony she throws a bucket of water over on Tony. Ralph sees his Pokemon soaking wet and gets angry. He goes into the house...which is next door. Misty gets angry that two people who live next door couldn't get along with each other. She continues on about love. "Not more important than catching Pokemon?" finishes Ash. Misty calls him a big baby and he starts crying again. Team Rocket are hiding in another bush and, of course, they plan to steal the pair Nidoran.
Meanwhile it appears Ash, Misty and Tracey are stay in a rented room somewhere. Misty is busy writing love letters to Ralph and Emily (the humans if you're getting confused). She also decides to send each of them a present. For Emily she sends a bunch of flowers and for Ralph a remote control airoplane. She tells them in the letter to meet in the park. She goes on that they were to immature to admit it but they liked each other. Foolishly Tracey chips in that it's the same with Misty and Ash, but they both shout his head off!
The next day, Ralph and Emily meet at the park, along with their pokemon (each in a cage). Ash and Co. are hiding. Ralph thought that she sent him the airplane as a joke because he always sick on planes! And Emily got angry at Ralph because she has hey fever! Then they started arguing an fighting with sticks again. Suddenly some church bells ring. Two people come out of the church, they look like a bride and groom. Misty congratulates them but the couple begin to recite a poem:
On this our sunny wedding day
There is a trick we would like to play
Our Matromony
Was a phony
And we're taking these pokemon away!
They take away Tony and Maria. A giant cake appears and the couple stand on it. They take of their disguises and it turns out to be Team Rocket. The Meowth balloon pops up out of the cake. Tied the balloon are some cans (just like the ones on a newly weds car as they go home.) Ralph and Emily get upset because they lost their Pokemon. They all see some cans on the road and follow them. Meanwhile, Team Rocket are putting the Nidoran into some kind of clothing so they will 'look their best for the boss'.
Suddenly, our heroes come from behind a bush and Emily and Ralph take back their Nidoran. Jessie sends out Arbok and James sends out Victreebell. Emily and Ralph use their Nidoran. Maria and Tony, battling for each other, beat them with a double kick, but then Team Rocket get into the Balloon. Out comes a vacuum and they try to suck up the Pokemon. Pikachu is almost sucked up, but holds on, and with his Thunder shock it looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again!
At Tracy's suggestion, Ralph and Emily decide to build a little house for their Nidoran, so they can spend more time together. Emily and Ralph also decide to be friends, and they blush, signalling they might like each other. Then Tony and Maria kiss, each evolving into Nidorino and Nidorina. Tracey wonders how they evolved, the battle or the kiss? Misty dismisses this by saying "Tracy, you're a goof." Ash wonders aloud to Misty whether people change when they get kissed, and Misty says, blushing, "We'll just have to find out for ourselves." Ash sighs, confused (He just doesn't get it does he?). Ash, Misty and Tracey continue on their trek to across Mandarin Island, to the next gym.
