At the town, the gang find themselves in a festival of Pokémon street performers. They witness many acts, including a Natu that can see into the future. After a lengthy set-up, Natu uses Future Sight to reveal a fortune. Misty decides to go next, and a new Natu is brought out - belonging to Mackenzie, the boy from earlier. He tries to replicate the set-up, but makes many mistakes, and runs away.

He explains to Naughty that his nerves are his problem, and the gang approach. They listen to his concerns; the performer is Mackenzie's father, and he strives to be as good as him. Misty has an idea.

In the festival, James is confronted by a Magikarp salesman. Almost taken in, he suddenly remembers being swindled before, but before he can lash out, Jessie and Meowth arrive, and explain their plan to steal the performing Pokémon.

Misty gives Mackenzie a Wooper mask, thinking that hiding his face might improve his nerves. The set-up goes well, but Naughty's Future Sight fails; Mackenzie explains that he hasn't practiced the move much. Ash suggests a battle, but Mackenzie not sure if the mask works. His father turns up, however, and thinks it's a great idea.

Back at the festival, Mackenzie wears the mask, and even manages to update the act. Suddenly, however, Team Rocket arrive, and steal the performing Pokémon. With Weezing's Smokescreen attack, the team gets away. However, soon enough, Machoke gets away.

Machoke arrives at the group, and points them in the direction of Team Rocket's balloon. Ash has Bayleef use its Razor Leaf on the net trapping the Pokémon, and free them all - except for Naughty. A second Razor Leaf brings the balloon down near a school.

Mackenzie frees Naughty, and starts to battle Team Rocket. Ash joins in with Bayleef, defeating them with no trouble. Realising that they're street performers, the teacher at the school asks them to put on a show for the children. Mackenzie and Naughty perform, and it seems that the battle has raised the Natu's level - it can now use Future Sight without a problem.
