IGN have revealed that there are actually some glitches in Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire.

This news item is more than 45 days old. Updates are unlikely and newer information may already be available.

In what so far is only thought to be affecting some of the Japanese versions of the game, the internal clock (that you set at the start of the game) seems to be mucked up a bit.

This will start to effect games that have been going for more than a year- oo-er.

The clock upset, which is being dubbed "clockgate" by fans, will effect things in the game such as the lottery, berry growth and some Pokémarts selling things.

The only way to fix the games is to take them to a Nintendo service centre (yes, there is "loads" about), and it's free. Presumably, you could mail your cartridge to a service centre if you're that worried.

If we find out anything more, such as answers to "does this affect English language games?", "Does moss really only grow north facing on trees?" and "How will Eastern European countries effect the European Common Agricultural Policy?", we'll keep you posted.
