With Rob's 22nd birthday arriving this week, we thought we'd combine two of his favourite things (football and farm animals) in a Pokémon form.
This news item is more than 45 days old. Updates are unlikely and newer information may already be available.
So to do so easily, here's our attempt to create the ultimate football team... in Pokémon form! We suspect they'll be slightly more effective than Leeds United is at the moment...
Goalies
When it comes to the ultimate defense, Rob knows that it's good to have something strong to block it. Gender doesn't matter to Rob, as we all know, as long as they play well. And Miltank is one of the best... and prettiest.
Defenders
Stoutland... a defensive giant, likely to get in anyone's way... and if the barking doesn't do the trick, its body certainly gets rid of any threats... just make sure the ref's not watching.
Partnered with Emboar, they can form a team you can't get around, not unless you're small and nimble enough and don't mind facing some bad physical threats.
While not a physical heavyweight, Grumpig is the brains of the defense. Following its experience playing with other balls as a Spoink, the team captain focuses on providing good coverage and being there before the other players know they'll play in that direction.
It's joined in this task by Golduck, playing left-back and focusing on keeping the game moving forward.
Midfield
Fast and tough, Tauros is a good enough player (if slightly held back by Miltank sometimes). As good as you could get here.
Joining the team is less of a farm animal, but one we have to list here: Feraligatr, as Rob's favourite, has to sit here.
Last comes in Flaaffy. Perhaps not the strongest player, it knows how to set up combinations with the others and plays ahead to make sure the others shine - a true team player.
Strikers
Rapidash, with its speed and kicking power, is the clear Centre forward for Rob. There's no other option, really, and it's what you'd go for.
Not exactly what you'd expect from a chicken, Combusken joins the charge with an aggressive stance that sometimes has to be held back, but saves the match often enough.
Last, for pure speed, we have Dodrio. If you can't catch up with it, you can't take the ball - a winning combination, if only it could stay focused for long enough and increased its shot accuracy.
All in all
While it's unlikely to win any major tournaments soon, we're sure that in his birthday giddiness Rob sees how this is a better team to support. The next time he'll get the chance, he'll surely field it.
So happy birthday Rob! May our ideas bring you many good football years from now on!
