The TM can be found on Route 222. It can also be learned naturally by Primeape, Grimer/Muk, Cubone/Marowak, Chansey/Blissey, Aipom/Ambipom, Teddiursa, Zigzagoon/Linoone, Pelipper, Slaking, Munchlax and Weavile.
But enough about acquiring the move; how does it work? Let's take a look.
The idea is that the user throws its held item at the foe, and the base damage (and, in some cases, side-effects) are based entirely on the item thrown. We're going to look at the best choices for held items to use for this move.
Important note before we begin - if you're fighting in the game, and use Fling, the held item will be lost forever. This move's far more appropriate for fighting your friends, or the Pokémon Battle Revolution game for the Wii.
For each item, I've listed a Base Power when used by Fling, the effect of the item when held by your Pokémon, its location within the game and, where applicable, side-effects of throwing the item.
Iron Ball's sole purpose is to be thrown by Flingers. The worst effect of any held item ever - removing the useful Ground immunity from Flying types and Levitaters, and lowering the speed stat as well - is there to compensate for the massive damage caused by the Iron Ball when thrown. This is the most damaging item to be Flung by a full 30 Base Damage.
