If I save just before the odd egg (from Pokemon Crystal) hatches and it is not a shiny pokemon, can I just reset my game and keep trying until it is a shiny?

No, no, no, Sentret is pretty sure that once the egg is there, it is always, always, always exactly the same Pokémon in there!!
