Johto Plus Two

Created by ShiraBliss

Morning! This team was initially created for a FanFiction I’ve been working on, but as I progressed into character development I realized that my team could work well in a competitive light. The Squad is called ‘Johto Plus Two’ because 4 of the 6 Pokemon either had a starter evolution or was created in the Second Generation of Pokemon. On top of that, 5 of them can be found in Johto. So, enjoy reading and tell me what you think :) ~~ Peace.
Charlie the Blaziken
Holding Choice Band
Ability: Blaze
Moves: Nature: Adamant
Attack EV: 252
Special Defense EV: 4
Speed EV: 252
Attack IV: 31
Defense IV: 31
Special Attack IV: 31
Special Defense IV: 31
Speed IV: 31
HP IV: 31

In Battles, Charlie’s role is to sweep. With two 120 base attack moves and one 100 base attack move paired with an attack stat of 120 with a favorable nature, Charlie is an absolute BEAST. Not only is this combination monstrous, the added boost from the Choice band sky-rockets his attack stat from a maximum of 372 to 558. Ouch. Flare Blitz is for STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus) and for putting more strain on the opponent during the late game. Superpower is also for STAB, and with Choice Band it’s, like Flare Blitz, a painful experience. Thunderpunch and Stone Edge are for type coverage, but if Blaziken could learn Dragon Claw or some variation of a Dragon-type move, I’d replace Stone Edge since Thunderpunch is too valuable to remove and Stone Edge is only there to dent other Dragon-types (and because Thunderpunch deals with everything else that Stone Edge can do, it’s a wiser choice I think). In terms of timing, Charlie’s best niche is in the late game. Finishing off what remains of the opponent with Flare Blitz (ultimately activating Blaze) is a strength of Charlies, and risk losing him in the early game puts me at a huge disadvantage. In Personality (for FanFiction), Charlie is a strong character who is very noble. He is also stubborn (adamant); unwavering until completely proven otherwise. If anyone attempts to hurt his master, he does not take the offense lightly. He is made fun of by his team mates for referring to his master as “Mommy”.

Astraea the Starmie
Holding Leftovers
Ability: Natural Cure
Moves: Nature: Bold
Defense EV: 52
Special Attack EV: 68
Speed EV: 252
HP EV: 136
Attack IV: 31
Defense IV: 31
Special Attack IV: 31
Special Defense IV: 31
Speed IV: 31
HP IV: 31

For battling purposes, take a look at his nature. Having a Bold Nature, I’ve found, is alright for the Rapid Spinning set for two reasons: 1) the + Defense nature means less Defense EVs needed for the Rapid Spinning Set, 2) This means that I can allocate the remaining EVS into Speed and Special Attack. Without a Timid Nature, I can still reach the Speed Stat recommended along with the HP and Defense recommendations. This means that I can allocate more EVs into Special Attack- something which other natures do not allow. His moves are Surf (for STAB) and Thunderbolt for type coverage while Rapid Spin and Recover are for self- and team preservation. As for timing, Astraea is pretty flexible: he can appear at any time if I need him. It won’t be simple though, which is why I have a Pokemon with U-turn to make switches safer. If I didn’t have my switcher, however, I guess I’d use him during the early and middle game. In Personality (for FanFiction) he is cocky and has very outspoken mannerisms (which mimic his bold nature). Astraea is also highly competitive and won’t go down without a fight. He often challenges other water-types to swimming competitions and is currently tied with a Pokemon called Floatzel for the title of swimming champion. Astraea is also very rude, but only when either agitated or against an opponent who he doesn’t approve of. Negativity aside, Astraea is loyal and honest- his honesty can get him into tiffs with his peers, but in the end is always appreciated.

Anubis the Houndoom
Holding Life Orb
Ability: Flash Fire
Moves: Nature: Bold
Special Attack EV: 252
Speed EV: 252
HP EV: 4
Attack IV: 31
Defense IV: 31
Special Attack IV: 30
Special Defense IV: 30
Speed IV: 30
HP IV: 31

In battles, Houndoom are very susceptible to KOs before getting a chance to set up, which is why the Nasty Plot movepool doesn’t float my boat. I already have a Choice Fire-type Pokemon, so I don’t need a second. Therefore the best thing I can do for Anubis is give him a Life Orb and some Defensive capabilities. His nature is actually pretty useful, and hasn’t hindered my ability to get some OHKOs (surprisingly). Fire Blast was chosen over Flamethrower because Blast gives me some precious KOs- what with the extra boost from STAB and the Life Orb. Dark Pulse is also for STAB, and Sludge Bomb is for hurting enemies who take little or less damage from Fire Blast and Dark Pulse than this deadly Poison- move (which also gives Anubis a 30% chance to poison the target). His Hidden Power is Flying in case he is singled out and up against a Fighting-type- who will take more damage from a base 70 Flying- move than a base 80 Dark- or 120 Fire- move. In Personality (for FanFiction), Anubis was rescued off of the streets of Violet City after his old master tied him to a lamp post without food or water. Anubis is extremely loyal to his new master, and any threats towards her (or unkind gestures or untrustworthy remarks) result in an angry Anubis. Overall he is mistrusting, but recovers from his abuse over time, revealing him to be a playful and loving Pokemon.

Haku the Scizor
Holding Choice Band
Ability: Technician
Moves: Nature: Adamant
Attack EV: 56
Special Defense EV: 252
HP EV: 200
Attack IV: 31
Defense IV: 31
Special Attack IV: 31
Special Defense IV: 31
Speed IV: 31
HP IV: 31

In battles, Haku is a Scizor. What do you expect? He’s a SCIZOR- of course he’s going to be my bad-ass revenge killer/sweeper! U-Turn is for scouting and allowing team members to switch in without wasting a precious turn while Bullet Punch is for STAB. Bullet Punch paired with STAB, Technician, a base attack stat of 130, and a Choice Band is one of a Scizor’s deadliest assets. Superpower is for quick kills and hurting those who don’t take much damage from Bullet Punch while Pursuit is for getting the cowards who try to pull away from Haku’s might! In Personality (for FanFiction) Haku is a courageous individual who is also a very inspirational figure. His sense of justice and impermeable will are a great asset to the morale of the team. He is also merciful, which truly gives him a reason to be a role model.

Anima the Mismagius
Holding Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
Moves: Nature: Timid
Special Attack EV: 252
Speed EV: 252
HP EV: 4
Attack IV: 31
Defense IV: 30
Special Attack IV: 30
Special Defense IV: 30
Speed IV: 30
HP IV: 31

In battles, Anima is a potent Special Sweeper. Her Levitate ability helps the team against Ground-types and can easily absorb Earthquakes originally aimed for the Fire-types on the team. She is also immune to Normal- and Fighting-type attacks, making switches easy- especially if they’re locked into the said attack with a Choice Item. Calm Mind was chosen over Nasty Plot because an increase in Special Defense is just as valuable as increasing Special Attack, and with Calm Mind increasing both simultaneously Anima kills two birds with one stone. Shadow Ball is for STAB and Magical Leaf is for type coverage. I decided to go with Magical Leaf over Thunderbolt for greater type coverage and team Synergy: no other team members thus far have a Grass-type move, only Electric-types, which leaves the team vulnerable to the likes of Swampert, Quagsire, and Gastrodon. In Personality (for FanFiction), Anima is easily frightened- ironic since she is a Ghost Pokemon. Her phobias weaken the longer she stays with her team mates, and she finds her inner courage through them. She is also very shy. This, however, she does not get over.

Arianna the Skarmory
Holding Leftovers
Ability: Keen Eye
Moves: Nature: Impish
Defense EV: 4
Special Defense EV: 252
HP EV: 252
Attack IV: 31
Defense IV: 31
Special Attack IV: 31
Special Defense IV: 31
Speed IV: 31
HP IV: 31

In battles, Arianna is the team’s Spiker/Stealth Rock-er. She is the team’s set-up artist and force switcher: she is trained to annoy the crap out of anyone silly enough to get locked into her deadly Stealth and Whirlwind trap. Brave Bird is her only attacking move, and I chose this over Steel Wing because Steel-type offensive moves are poor (bar Bullet Punch on a Scizor). Brave Bird was chosen over Drill Peck because, although I prefer Drill Peck, Brave Bird puts a larger dent in the enemy and any recoil damage can be healed with a Roost. As she is the Set-up artist, she is an early (game) bird; it’s better to leave the late game to Charlie or Haku, since she is a real necessity on the team and should be used sparingly. In Personality (for FanFiction), Arianna is the trouble maker. She often collects large spoils from her defeated foes; pick-pockets those silly enough to fall for her tricks (which is surprisingly a good handful of people and Pokemon alike); tricks others into giver her jewels (which she adores); and uses her signature move, attract (FanFiction only), on unsuspecting enemies who are not accustomed to such direct flirting. Due to her provocative nature, her enemies usually forget that she is a deadly force to be reckoned with.

Your blaziken could be in a spot of bother if it gets locked into flare blitz because the recoil could kill it if the enemy can't.

I think that Sludge Bomb isn't helping you at all. I guess unless it's a Ludicolo, but you shouldn't have a Houndoom against a Ludicolo anyway. Pretty decent team though.

@ Girafariger:
Sludge Bomb helps against any fire resistant Pokemon such as Water-types. It does neutral damage to all but 3 types, and it has a 30% chance to badly poison the opponent, therefore making it a great addition to the movepool.
I chose Poison over Normal for neutral type coverage for two reasons: 1) Poisoning the opponent is more dangerous than paralyzing the opponent. Poison eats away at HP, forcing a healer to appear and results in the opponent losing their healer to my own Pokemon. Paralysis is useful, but not as useful as Poisoning. 2) Normal types are in short supply of special attacking moves. Hyper Beam isn't an option and the other special moves available are weak or useless without a pairing move.

These were the reasons behind why I made Sludge Bomb my #1 choice for neutral coverage :) Hope you understand my choice now 83

@ashcompanionwill
I've checked for powerful STAB moves for Blaziken, but the most powerful one that he can use as a Fire-type is Flare Blitz. The next most powerful move (that Blaziken can learn) is a staggering 35 points lower than Flare Blitz's power, which means that a great deal of KOs wouldn't occur and Blaziken would have a higher chance of getting killed than if he had Flare Blitz.

I hope generation 5 has better physical Fire-Type moves. A base 100 attack move would be nice... the only one like that at the moment is Sacred Fire, which is Ho-Oh's signature move...

I guess I understand. On my Houndoom, I use a Specs set. Dark Pulse worked fine against Fire-resistant Pokemon, and then HP Fighting covered the Dark types that resisted both of his Fire and Dark
STAB, such as Sharpedo. It is your team though.
